HIGH BRIDGE – Extraterrestrial fanatics are invited to join a group of UFO and contactee researchers for a weekend of events to honor one of High Bridge’s historical and cultural figures.
The High Bridge Historical Committee will host its first incident weekend Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16, featuring the Howard Menger Story.
Howard Royal Menger Jr. became well known as an American contactee claiming to have met extraterrestrials through the course of his life. Menger was the author of two noted books on his UFO history, "The High Bridge Incident," and From Outer Space To You."
“Howard is one of High Bridge’s claims to fame, having publicly stated that he was visited by extraterrestrials from Venus at his family farm in High Bridge in the 1950s,” said Councilwoman Natalie Ferry at the Thursday, June 22, High Bridge Borough Council meeting.
Ferry is also the liaison to the Historical Committee.
Friday, July 14
• Main Street Alien Crawl: Participants will be able to enjoy food, drink, live music and shopping at Main Street businesses. The Main Street Alien Crawl will run from 6 p.m. until the businesses close.
• Movie in the Park: Community members can bring a lawn chair or blanket to the High Bridge Commons to watch Stephen Spielberg’s film “ET.” The Commons is located at 79 Main Street. The movie will begin at 8:30 p.m., and is a free event.
Saturday, July 15
• Light Out at Solitude House: HBO’s Ghost Hunters host Bruce Tango will conduct a “Lights Out” session and present his movie “The Staring Man” at the Historic Solitude House. Solitude House is located at 7 River Road. Tango’s “Lights Out” session is scheduled for 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.Tickets are $50.
Sunday, July 16
• Open Mic Alien Story Telling: Community members are invited to gather on the lawn at Solitude House at 1 p.m., and share their personal stories of ET encounters, sightings and abductions. This is a free event.
All proceeds raised from the Howard Menger Story incident weekend will be used to continue the preservation of High Bridge’s historical properties.
