Aaron Pico issues statement after Bellator 222 loss: ‘I have a lot of work to do’

Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his young career, Aaron Pico isn’t shying away from the public.

The 22-year-old featherweight recorded a message for his fans on social media a week after being knocked out by Adam Borics at Bellator 222, a loss that has some questioning whether Pico has been pushed too hard too soon.

Pico was grateful for the support and stated that his plan is to still become a world champion in MMA.

“I’ve been off my phone for a few days, but I just wanted to give you guys an update that everything is going well,” Pico said. “Obviously, we hate to lose, it’s not a very good feeling, but we’re gonna get back to the drawing board, I gotta get back to Albuquerque, figure out with the coaches what I did wrong and bounce back. Right now, just enjoying life, riding my horse, out with the dogs, and just healing up.

“But I hope everybody has a great weekend. Again, thank you for the continued support, I really, really appreciate it. I have a lot of work to do. A lot, a lot of work, but that’s what makes it fun, makes it exciting, and makes it worth getting up in the morning and working to your ultimate goal, being world champion. We’ll get there. Thank you.”

Pico is 4-3 as a pro fighter, with all of his losses coming by way of knockout or submission. Prior to being finished by Borics and Henry Corrales, Pico won four straight fights by first-round KO/TKO.
