Alessandro Del Piero has signed for Indian Super League outfit Delhi Dynamos.

The Italy and Juventus legend, now 39, left Sydney FC at the end of last season but insisted there was no intention to retire.

He admitted a switch to Celtic would interest him but Del Piero has agreed to join the newly-formed ISL, where he will also be a league ambassador.

In a statement, he said: "I am very enthusiastic about this new adventure, it fits perfectly well with the way in which I chose to move forward since I left Juventus, three summers ago.

"For me, the pitch isn’t the only thing that counts, that what surrounds the game counts just as much.

"Above all what is important is the possibility to join together the professional aspect and the role of “football ambassador”, a chance to proudly represent in the world this wonderful sport, that has become a fundamental part of my life since the day I was born."

The Indian Super League begins in October and has already attracted a number of high-profile recruits.

Ex-Arsenal 'invincibles' Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg have both been signed, along with Luis Garcia and David Trezeguet.
