The AN/AAQ-8 is a second-generation infrared (IR) countermeasures pod based on the AAQ-4 and capable of operation in a supersonic environment.
The system is mounted in an aerodynamically shaped pod and can be configured with a ram air turbine that provides an independent power source. It has been fitted to many fighter and transport aircraft.
