Extension at the San Museum by Tadao Ando

The acclaimed Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando, who once designed the San Museum in Weonju, South Korea in 2013, has now carried out a new intervention to expand its facilities.

It is a contemporary art museum in which other works of art are incorporated – such as a permanent installation by James Turrell – that turn the whole into a work of art. Now, the extension carried out inserts a cube-like piece with a cross on the upper plane that is reminiscent of the church that Ando designed decades ago in Ibaraki and that, although it has been conceived as an exhibition space, becomes a new work of art for this museum.
