Real Madrid defender David Alaba talked in an interview with Sportsbild, where he shared his feelings after becoming a merengue. Alaba explained why he is wearing number 4 for Los Blancos.

“Number 27, which is the one I used for Bayern, isn’t allowed in LaLiga and the club then wanted me to take number 4. Sergio Ramos is an absolute legend, his performances on and off the field make him a true role model. However, I’m David Alaba and I don’t want to be compared to other players, I want to make my own history here,” said Alaba.

Bayern executives were upset when Alaba kissed Real Madrid’s badge in his presentation with the club. The defender explained why he did it.

“It was an emotional day for me, I was happy after getting to this club and I wanted to show how excited I was to take on this challenge. I didn’t mean to upset nobody, I spent wonderful years at Bayern. I will always respect the club and no action will change that,” he added.

Alaba met with former Bayern Munich teammate Toni Kroos, who has helped him in his arrival to the Spanish capital.

“We smiled when we met at the dressing room for the first time. Toni helped me a lot at the beginning and he was an important factor when I was adjusting to this new life. His wife also helped my own wife in the process,” explained Alaba.

Kroos wasn’t the only familiar face Alaba found in Madrid, as he also is reuniting with Carlo Ancelotti, who coached Bayern after his first tenure as Real Madrid’s coach ended.

“I’m so happy to be working with him again, he’s a very honest person and his experience is very valuable. He talked to me in German when we met the first day, so he definitely learned some German! We’ve now switched to English, though,” concluded Alaba.
