Former Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero retires from football

Real Madrid academy product and former player Esteban Granero has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34. Granero played for Madrid’s first team from 2009 to 2012 and won a Liga title, a Copa del Rey title and also the Spanish Supercup during Jose Mourinho’s years with the club.

Granero was a quality midfielder with a solid passing ability. It’s true that he spent most of those three seasons with Real Madrid’s first team as a reserve, but he never complained and was a soldier both for Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho.

Madrid decided to bring him back after a a two-year loan deal with Getafe where he proved his worth. He left the club in 2012 and then played for Queens Park Rangers —two seasons—, Real Sociedad —four seasons—, Espanyol —two seasons— and Marbella.

Granero was a beloved, loyal player in every club he played for and that’s something not easy to achieve. We wish him good luck in the future!
