What is Neon Genesis Evangelion Collector's Discs?

These collector's discs are full of interesting Evangelion content, including images and fun novelty apps. They were released in Japan by Gainax in a series, each being quite affordable (around $10-$20).

These CD-ROMs are Mac/PC hybrid.
