KEY NUMBERS- NNPC Ltd Signs MOU With Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the use of natural gas by large-scale gas utilization industries.
Located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Limited (IEPL) is a Poly-Olefins producer of a range of Polyethylene and Polypropylene products. It is a group company under the Indorama Corporation.
It currently operates the world’s largest single-train Urea Plant located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and is currently working on expansion plans within the next 6 years, in gas-based heavy manufacturing industries including fertilizer, methanol, and petrochemicals.
These expansion plans are expected to put Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Limited (IEPL) at the centre of gas utilisation in Nigeria. Its activities are expected to drive an annual contribution of $3bn to the nation’s GDP and a lifetime contribution of $18bn to government revenue.
It is also expected to monetise over 1.7 TCF of gas and drive the production of about 4.8 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of products including methanol, urea, and fertilizer to boost national food security among other benefits.
The signing of the MOU follows a successful Nigeria-India Business Forum in New Delhi, India where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to strengthen business relations between Nigeria and India.
