ZF and KPIT: Joint forces for a world-class automotive middleware solution. KPIT and ZF agree to promote an independent company named QORIX. Subject to regulatory approvals, QORIX will build on the expertise and relevant intellectual properties of both partners to develop open and scalable automotive middleware platforms and solutions for the entire mobility ecosystem. QORIX may invite additional technology companies to make it an independent full-solution product company. QORIX’s middleware solutions will allow mobility OEMs to manage the ever-increasing software complexity while retaining complete control of the underlying architecture. The lack of such a solution could delay the start of vehicle production and drive up technology spending. As #CES2024 is about to start, I wrote some predictions for the 2024 #automotive industry. I expect to see lots of announcements around these topics during the event: 1. The automotive landscape is undergoing rapid changes, with Chinese OEMs applying significant pressure, compelling established vendors to expedite their development cycles. 2. Innovative methodologies such as cloud-native and digital twins are facilitating the simultaneous progress of software and hardware designs. However, these approaches do not eliminate the necessity for quality assurance on tangible hardware, as issues related to long-term stability may not manifest in cloud environments. 3. OEMs are forging stronger partnerships with silicon vendors, entrusting them with a greater role in software integration and verification, including third-party SW IP. This shift prompts Tier1s to reconsider their position in the infotainment supply chain. 4. Unfortunately, OEM procurement teams continue struggling to establish effective quality requirements for software deliverables from silicon vendors. 5. Consequently, these vendors may prioritize minimal software quality assurance efforts, as they have done in the past. 6. OEMs face challenges in analyzing the quality of incoming software and the associated assets due to inadequate processes, expertise, and tools. This deficiency results in the release of immature software to the market, turning end-users into unwitting testers. This scenario risks damaging brand value, attracting negative media coverage, and potentially leading to sales disruptions, as recently seen with the Chevy Blazer EV. I'll revisit this post at the end of 2024 to assess the accuracy of these predictions and gauge the industry's trajectory.
