PCP Aluminium is seeing an upward trend in the usage and application of AA5083 in the industry. So how does ALCA5/MAX5 5083 compare to 6061-T6? The primary differences between ALCA5 plate and MAX5 5083 and 6061-T6 aluminum alloys are mechanical strength and dimensional stability. As a rolled and heat-treated product, 6061-T6 has a grain structure that improves the mechanical properties of this alloy. The trade-off is internal stress, which can manifest itself as dimensional instability when machined or cut. ALCA5 and MAX5 5083 aluminum achieves its mechanical properties through the chemistry of the alloy, resulting in very low internal stress. This characteristic makes 5083 aluminum machine with fewer passes, ensuring it remains dimensionally flat and stable.
