YouTube Channels for Designers: P1 👨🎨 🚆 Nowadays, YouTube might be my most valued source of information, you can literally teach yourself anything, for free. In 2019 I taught myself how to build a camper van, since then, I have learned how to cut hair, how to make veggie crispy shredded duck and how to tie your shoelaces with just one hand, all on YouTube. It's a powerful source of information.... if used effectively. I watch a lot of content on YouTube, so it's important to ensure that the algorithm continues to feed me informative content, otherwise, my productivity levels could fall through the floor! We've all been there, at the bottom of a YouTube worm hole wondering how much deeper it goes. I have put together a deck that presents 3 YouTube channels you may not have heard of that can help keep that algorithm on track! They're great channels that are both informative and relaxing to watch. It's simple for me, when they release content... I watch and learn. This will be part 1 of a 3-part series. 1. Scott Yu-Jan: https://lnkd.in/eCmbGD7X Scott Yu-Jan 2. Some Gray Things: https://lnkd.in/e3_Vn63D Gray Dawdy 3. Matthew Encina: https://lnkd.in/eVnuzQjT Matthew Encina Let me know if there are any other channels you enjoy as a designer or creative. I'd love to find some that I haven't seen before!

Creating a portfolio website on Notion - why not? 🤷♀️ Hey LinkedIn fam, I've got something exciting to share. I've just launched my brand-new portfolio website, and guess what? It's all on Notion! 🙌 No more hopping from one link to another - now you can explore my best works and case studies all in one place, with just a single click. 💼 I know, Notion might not be the go-to for website creation, but I'm all about pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box. After all, isn't creativity about making the most of what you have, even with limitations?💡 So, did Notion stop me from being creative? 😎 I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on my portfolio. 🔗 Check it out here: https://whimscribe.co/ Let's break some design rules and embrace creativity together! Some of the best work I’ve ever seen exist in a portfolio, is on the Playground page. Or the Almost page. Or the Fun page. Or the Nearly There page. The page that hasn’t really got a purpose. Just a place where you drop your random design ‘bits’ for everyone to see, because you liked how it felt when you created it. The reason I love looking at these pages is because every single version I’ve seen is wildly different. No process. No budget. No approval. It’s where you gauge a true reflection of the style someone wants to be known for. Are you a Playground page person, or do you think it’s a waste of time? And what’s the best thing you’ve seen on a playground page that should be out in the real world?

Who am I today? It's a curious question, given that we're more like mosaics—ever-changing, piece by piece. In my recent 'design a day' challenge, it struck me how each creation, as random and varied as they seem, captures a genuine slice of me at that moment. It's not inspired by any grand philosophy, but reflecting on it, Rick Rubin's 'The Prism of Self' from 'The Creative Act, A Way of Being' resonates deeply with this experience. My work over the past few weeks may look all willy-nilly at a glance, a collection that bounces around the spectrum of style and emotion. But really, every design is just a snapshot of me at that moment, in all my glorious contradictions. It's not about sticking to one label; it's about celebrating the whole chaotic concert of personalities that decide to show up whenever I sit down to create. Rubin's reflection on the complexity of our identity—how we're not just one thing but many—echoes through my daily designs. It’s a reminder that our creative output is as diverse as our experiences and feelings, a testament to the individuality of each moment. So, here's to the seemingly scattered, to the wildly diverse. To understanding that behind every creation is a story, a mood, a small piece of the creator at that point in time. May we all appreciate the beautiful chaos that comes from being uniquely ourselves in every moment. Also, some of these are best viewed in their animated form, you can check these out on my instagram @wilmotstudio
