Tracking minerals and metals value-chain (as a whole) determines the sustainability feature of mining. Recycling is just a phase in the product value-chain!
Is recycling become the new 'sustainable mining' of metals? "Using recycled, instead of newly mined, metals cuts Pandora's indirect CO2 emissions by around 58,000 tonnes annually, said Mads Twomey-Madsen, its senior vice president of communications and sustainability. Recycled metal supply chains pose risks, as stolen gold can be sold as scrap to be recycled, and it is difficult to prove the origin of metals once melted down. To mitigate the risks, Pandora uses a chain of custody standard developed by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). That standard, for example, excludes gold coins and gold bars as a source of recycled gold." #recycledmaterials #sustainablesupplychains #esg #preciousmetals #responsiblesourcing https://lnkd.in/eNQdcdSP

When Pandora makes this giant leap, it truly closes the loop on circularity. As per World Gold Council, the environmental impact of recycling gold is 99% less than that of mining it. The value of non-carcinogenic illness impacts is at $3.5 million for every 5 pounds of gold mined, or 95% of the total impact value. Supporting frameworks from World Gold Council, Responsible Jewellery Council and the likes, are paving the way forward for electronics recylers, validating a secondary market for precious metals. Aren't we all sitting on micro gold mines? Recycle your electronics! Make the next generation wear their jewellery with pride! #PCBrecycling #ewasterecycling #co2reduction #circulareconomy

Going Green with Gold: The Surprising Sustainability of Gold Recycling Gold isn't just a symbol of luxury—it's also making strides in sustainability! Gold recycling involves transforming old or unused gold items, from ornate jewelry to obsolete electronics, back into valuable resources. The World Gold Council defines recycled gold as any gold recovered for reuse, excluding direct gold-for-gold exchanges in retail. Let's break it down with some tangible examples: Jewelry Recycling: About 90% of the world’s recycled gold comes from high-valued scrap jewelry. Imagine your old wedding band finding new life in someone else's engagement ring! Electronic Waste: Those old laptops and phones? They're gold mines—literally! Small amounts of gold are used in the circuit boards, and recycling helps recover this precious metal. India, a significant player, recycles 11% of its gold, influenced by market prices and economic trends. This process not only supports economic sustainability but also reduces environmental impact, making old gold a golden opportunity for a greener future. #Sustainability #GoldRecycling #InnovativeEconomy"

The cordless hoover Kobold VK7 exemplifies the goal of Vorwerk Group to consistently reduce the CO₂ footprint of new products – e.g. with the use of recycled materials. As part of K 2019, the Vorwerk managers approached ALBIS Distribution with component sketches of a new project. For decades, companies of the Otto Krahn Group – including Albis, MOCOM Compounds and the recycling company WIPAG – have been supplying plastics as well as corresponding application know-how to Vorwerk. Until now, handle constructions such as that of the new Kobold were realised with a combination of aluminium tubing, moulded plastic parts made of long-fibre-reinforced polyamides and corresponding connecting elements. Now the three-part construction consists of only one material: carbon fibre-reinforced polypropylene. This is the deep black coloured WIC PP-30 BKD produced by Wipag and supplied by Mocom. The compound is based on virgin PP with 30% recycled carbon fibre and allows a weight of around 2.3 kg for the entire unit. CO₂ footprint is more than 4 kg lower compared to previously used polyamide compounds. #KTradefair #MesseDuesseldorf #CircularEconomy #Recycling #Sustainability

Great article written by William Nevins-Alderfer Why Most “Recycled Gold” is a Lie “Recycling gold is actually nothing new, as nobody discards gold due to its high value, so it is totally different from materials like aluminum and paper that if not recycled would be discarded It is therefore highly misleading to advertise “recycled gold” as any kind of higher environmental or social standard for jewelry. Buying “recycled gold” with an untraceable origin is in fact quite unethical as it does not bring progress and development to a mining sector that will not disappear and needs the support of the market to foster sustainability and environmental responsibility. In most cases, labeling gold jewelry as made from “recycled gold” is actually greenwashing, and is simply a lie.” https://lnkd.in/eg3--VJd #transparecy #pawnshops #recycledgold
