Interested in strategies to improve your class? I presented a two-year-long study at the Frontiers in Education conference on the impact of 4 personalized learning techniques in my undergrad 3rd year course on human computer interaction. We have had years and years of complaints from students about all sorts of issues with it. Beyond the standard challenges of teaching HCI, this course has to accommodate undergrads with minimal programming experience, a lot of programming majors in the class, and a group of grad students in computer science. All in all, I found a flexible and flipped format in the redesign with 4 personalized learning techniques which had very good uptake and positive learning outcomes! You can see the student evaluations improved drastically and a thematic analysis showed that students were almost twice as verbose in identifying the strengths of the course and their qualitative responses (see the blue codes) pointed to the flexibility of the new course design.

Throughout this series, we’ve delved into conversations with educators, thinkers from various disciplines, and experts in mathematics and computer science. Our aim was to illuminate the multifaceted nature of the Five-Step Curricular Process, a methodology not confined to secondary school math classrooms alone. Instead, it serves as a profound paradigm shift, offering a fresh perspective on how we perceive the world around us. https://lnkd.in/gft_Ui9E

Made in the image of God, Dayspring students learn they have an infinite ability to think, reason, and create. That’s why Dayspring developed the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math program, which begins by laying down principles, facts, and laws of nature. From there, students contrive new ideas and bring them to life by trial and error—learning that failure is a great teacher. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade participate in STEM classes, while students in eighth grade take a physical science class taught from a STEM perspective. Students in tenth and twelfth grades take a STEM course, and Dayspring’s science and math teachers work with the STEM classes to develop comprehensive learning. Learn more about Dayspring at DayspringChristian.com/.
