Finally DM with an improved engine, more than just the gray stone scenery (though that old stalwart was still in there), no new spells though, disappointing, but there was a lot of other new things, object types, ideas such as shops and money etc.
The many, varied ingame musics were wonderful, previous DMs had none! Sounds were vastly improved too!
It automapped itself as well! No need to search the house for any of that ancient school graph paper - if any were left!
I'm going off the PC version here, by '93 I'd moved over to the PC scene with my A500 still set up ready to go when the mood took me! I'd got this myself in '96 and played it on a Pentium 120MHz. Have played it again recently after finding it on some old nostalgia site...... I also still have the old CD! Ha! I'm looking at it right now on a shelf full of old CDs right in front of me! It's old installer won't run on W10 though.
Superb continuation of the DM franchise..... But by '95 they could have done even more.

Also the constant harassment from Lord Chaos's "attack minion" drones made the game more and more unpleasant to play as you progressed. Whoever THAT idea was needed their bumps feeling!

For that it gets LESS than the 10/10 the earlier two DMs get.

Better than the Eye of Beholder series I also played during 93 and 94.

Everything about DM2 is understandable, since it was delayed for so long. As a game it seems out of touch not really acknowledging the strides made by other games that came before it.

Still, even though I was initially dismayed by the steps backwards it makes, particularly the interface which makes spell casting in the heat of combat much more cumbersome than before, I still garnered enjoyment from exploring the game world and leveling my party towards a pretty good compromise of fighter\priest\wizard inclination. Some of the new spells are cool like speed running and being able to generate markers to place around to help with orientation. The shops are a good new addition, as is the teleport system, which is hugely helpful but doesn't feel like cheating because of the imposed limitations. The game has some shining moment like exploring the old cemetery and trading intellects with a big green monster. In my opinion, Evil's Doom is basically what DM2 should have been like, but I would recommend any RPG fan to play both games.

Competent Dungeon Crawler, but definitely not as good as Eye of the Beholder or the original Dungeon Master. The best part of DM2 was the haggling over items. Most of the game was spent outside, though you do go inside the castle late in the game. Once inside the castle, be well prepared, as you will be introduced to a new level of pain.

Dungeon Master 2 was everything you wanted but the Keep it's self was so small that the game felt it was over before you even started. The Keep should of been as big if not bigger than the original DM or Chaos Strikes Back by it's self alone.

Although the outside was welcome, 75% of the game should not of been out here. Asking us to have faster machines, more memory and then not giving us the full on dungeon experience was the games biggest let down.

As a package it is quality don't get me wrong, but the lack of a real dungeon and being stuck in it for weeks if not months like the originals stops this being the classic it could of been. Still love it tho.

I also agree with the first poster.

However, I was thrilled to get another DM game. I ended up buying the PC version, but it was fun. I never finished it like I did the others on amiga, so I plan to restart and finish on Amiga emulator.

A full on remake of DM would be something exciting. There have been false starts... But someone could combine the levels of all the games and make one game with everything totally updated for today's machines. That's something I'd buy if it were done right.

It was the last come back to the roots, in the time, when PC RPG went into full 3D enviroment. Conversion was nearly pefect. Set of areas outside and inside the Skullkeep, both on the he surface and below it, made this game even better than Eye of the Beholder (which part 2 i beloved ) It has much more complicated mechanics of the game, and the riddles aren't frustrating. There is also auto-map function and flying scout-orbs. Pure fun without a stress

If you're into these types of games, then give it a go. I didn't like the character selection system at the start, and graphically it's poor in places. The atmosphere is great at times, especially outside in the graveyard. Not as good as the Eye of the Beholder series though.

I agree with Karpow, there is a 'something missing' feeling when playing this game after dungeon master and chaos strikes back. However still a great game, great atmosphere and much better graphics...Maybe too much technology...maybe...Also I was expecting a real city to explore like it was promised (like ishar for example) in magazines.
Anyway, despite all, very good game.

A good sequel to one of the best games in the world. Unfortunately, something is missing. At least the spellsystem is not as good as in the original but still much better than in Eye of the Beholder-games. Graphics and sounds are of course better but I don't know... It just doesn't capture you like the prequels did. Atmosphere in Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes back is just unbeatable. Nevertheless, a very, VERY good game. One of the best RPG on Amiga for sure!
