An amazing conversion that's just as well animated and playable as the Amiga version.

The true challenge would have been to make it without the need for modern paraphernalia, particularly when other 8-bit systems got conversions on the stock hardware.

Back in the day I used to play the PC version at a friend's place all the time, then later on I got the Amiga version, but having this one on the C64 would have been a dream! What else to say, it plays perfect and it's a mirror copy of the original game, only wish there was a disk version of it.

Fantastic C64-port of the game. A shame that it is apparently impossible, to create a disk version of it, because that would have been really superb.

This is probably the best 8-bit version of Prince of Persia. I bought an EasyFlash 3 expansion cartridge just to play this game in my Commodore 64.

Legend of a game. I don't know if this has been mentioned without reading every post but I heard that this was the game which inspired Tomb Raider

It's a real pleasure to play this game well converted. But I'm not sure that it was necessary to create a special cardbridge to convert it on the C64. Look at the Amstrad version converted at this time. This is a poor machine compared to the c64, but pop is really good on it.

10/10

I don't understand the whiners, too. For all cartridge-based consoles, it was common practice to enhance the actual console with extra hardware inside the cartridge. So, following the logic of those whiners here, many later NES or SNES titles are not real NES or SNES games. So, e. G. , Super Mario Bros. 3 is not an NES game? Or ist Star Fox not a real SNES game? Just because Prince of Persia needs extra hardware inside the cartridge, it does not declassify itself as real C64 game. And technically, it could have been released and sold like this in the 90's.

A conversion that is better than the Apple II original in allmost every way.

Only gripe with the conversion is the window allowed to counter attack after a parry seems really strict compared to versions that came after the Apple II original and I think taking the same aproch as those (like the DOS version) would have been better.

Prince of Persia is a fabulous conversion. No matter if it runs on the cartridge, there are already games using C64 cartridge. What about the NES games that have additional hardware? No ... POP is a great game ... One of the best that are out on C64. Aside from some strange bug ...

This game is frustrating at times, but then again, so was the original Prince of Persia, so it actually stays faithful to the original. In fact, in some ways I actually like this better. 10/10

Totally agree with Sixteen Plus.
I used to get angry back in the day for games that needed a diskdrive and I couldn't afford one. Me being 13 and diskdrives costing like $600.
This game is awesome. Beautifull graphics, great gameplay and what a technical accomplishment. 10/10.

People, drop all the principles and just enjoy what being served here. Lighten up!

There's some very unfair reviews of this game. How can anybody give this a 1/10? Do they really think it's that bad by putting it in the realms of Manky?

Also to say it's not a C64 game, but more a C64+addon game because it requires a flash or ultimate2 cartridge is ludicrous. There's plenty of games which are disk only, so tape owners could easily say the same thing about those. Sure there's a lot more disk drive owners but that's besides the point. Play it on emulator or invest if you haven't got the right medium, whether it be a flash/ultimate2 cartridge or a 1541 drive for whatever game.

There's been plenty of cartridge games on the C64 and this would have been no exception had it been released back in the 90's. So does this make all the ripped cartridge games uploaded on GB64 not proper C64 games now?

Anyway fab C64 game. Beautifully presented. I give this a 9/10 which would have made it at least a sizzler in Zzap64 if it were released on cartridge in the 90's :)

Not my kind of game and like yaztromo, I tired of it after a fashion. What is undeniable is that it looks lovely and if you're into leaping and trap dodging, then the atmosphere is spot on and the game suitably large and challenging.

8/10

I gotta say I'm not at one with the general praise everyone is showering on this game.

Sure, the graphics are pretty, but that's about it.

I never got on with games that have Flashback style controls. They feel sluggish and unintuitive. Jumps that require me to press up long before he actually makes the jump? No thanks.

After about an hour of avoiding the odd trap, jumping over pits and standing on platforms to open doors I was thoroughly bored.

6/10 - Above average.

Nice game, however I gotta give it a 1/10 as it is not playable on a stock C=64 with a standard 1541, or cassette drive. A real good looker to be sure though.

State of the art.

Just copy it on a FlashCart or burn it into an EPROM on your DIY cartridge.

Waiting for a disk version of this.

Wow - looks, sounds, and plays better than I remember playing it on my Dad's 8088 IBM compatible or my cousin's 386.... But idk - it sucks the only way to play it is easy-flash or an emu... Only easy-flash carts I've seen are DIY with blank pre-etched PC boards and a case - at that point, I'd rather etch my own...

Yeah I have to say I'm not too crazy about this being the #1 game on the ratings list. If it was playable on a standard C64 then that would be a different story.

@Monk
to run this on a C64 you need a modern cartridge.
In precisely the same way that to run the expanded Navy Seals in 1990 required the Ocean cartridge version. Cartridge games tend to need cartridges.
However, to appear preinstalled on a cart would have meant selling it to cover costs. Any attempt at selling this game on cart using the currently active Prince of Persia franchise name would have resulted in legal action and costly lawsuits in very short order. Disney are the copyright holders and are very litigious. Hence letting the user flash their own cart circumvents this problem nicely.

To some up everything on this piece of craftmanship in just one word:

Perfect, amazing, pushing the borders, awesome, mind boggling  one word? That is impossible to do

This is not a C64 game, and thus does not belong to lemon64.

What do I mean, it's not a C64 game? Well, I will let Fröhn's words enlighten you:

"Doing stuff for "C64" means: "C64" and not "C64 + addon which only few people have""

I do recognize the 'fantastic' quality about how much work went into this, how 'impossible' was made 'possible' again, and how accurate the port is and everything. But it still isn't as good as the Amiga version, and aside from the novelty value or the 'Look, the C64 can do this! '-attitude, I don't really see, why anyone would choose this version over all the better versions.

This game does not run on a C64. It requires "addon, which only a few people have". It requires specialized hardware in addition to the C64. I know it's not 'easy', but I am tempted to say that it's easy to make -anything- work, if you can add all kinds of specialized hardware into the mix. You can even play 192 kbps 44. 1 Khz mp3's on the C64, if you can add mp3-playing hardware.

It would have been totally amazing if there would have been an actual C64 version of this game. But as it is now, THIS IS NOT A C64 VERSION of the game, it's a C64 PLUS ADDON-version.

And as I said, almost anything can be made with C64 + specialized hardware.

Too bad, I think the C64 could have done it.. But apparently the porters of this game didn't.

Amazing. SICK animation that captures the essence of the game, despite the limitations. Runs perfectly smooth on the C64 except for when planks are falling. Basically perfect.
