Ancascocha Trek 4 Days ITINERARY
Pre-trek briefing: You will have a briefing with your adventure guide 01 or 02 days before your Ancascocha Trek for 4 days at the reception of the clients’ hotel. The meeting time with the tour guide and hikers is at 6:30 p.m.
A land trip from Cusco to Camicancha: horseback riding to the Ancascocha lagoon and hiking to Qesqa
We leave at 05:30 from Cusco in our tourist vehicle to CAMICANCHA (CHILCA 3024 m/9,921 ft.). Camicancha is the start of the 4-day Ancascocha trek. We ride on horseback for 3 hours and 20 minutes, bordering the Ancascocha river along a bush path, reaching the Puna “cold zone” to get to the community of Ancascocha, and finish the ride in the vicinity of the Ancascocha lagoon in our first leg. Horseback riding through the Andes of Ancascocha is exciting due to the panoramic views of nature with its rugged mountains and snow-capped peaks, such as Huayanay.
We continue the adventure on a hike from Laguna Ancascocha to conquer Huayanay Pass; it takes about 40 minutes. It is cold in the Huayanay Pass, so we recommend wearing low-temperature clothing. From the Huayanay Pass, we descend for an hour and a half through the slopes of the mountains until we reach our base camp. We camp in Qesqa with an incredible view of the Wayllabamba Valley with its endless mountains.

Walk through the buffer zone of the Classic Inca Trail until km 82.
After a spectacular starry night with panoramic views of different mountains and a fantastic sunrise over the Andes, we begin our second day of adventure. Every time we approach the archaeological ruins of Paucarcancha, our Ancascocha trail turns green. We descend the mountain, walking for an average of 1 hour and a half to enter the Wayllabamba valley, where we find the ruins of Paucarcancha and Patawasi.
From Wayllabamba, we have about 4 hours of walking along a sector of the Inca Trail, exploring the ruins of Tarayoc, Llactapata, and Kanamarca, until we reach kilometer 82 of the railway to leave the Ancascocha circuit. The last section is a vehicular trip between km 82 and Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo overnight at the tourist hotel.

Travel by train to km 104; hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
We train from Ollantaytambo to kilometer 104 of the railway line early in the morning to start the Inca Trail trek. At the beginning of the hike, we cross the suspension bridge to reach the Inca trail control point to present the tickets and documentation of authorization to enter the sanctuary of Machu Picchu to enter the circuit that goes to Machupicchu through Inti Punku.
During the first three hours of hiking, we do not have the presence of natural shade, for which it is essential to bring excellent sunscreen and at least two liters of water per hiker. During the last two hours, we entered the nature of the jungle; walking through a natural garden is excellent. We reach the top of Inti Punku, where we will have spectacular views of the entire Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and the Huayna Picchu mountain with its surrounding mountains. The last section is to descend the Inti Punku until you leave the tourist circuit. We board the bus service to go to Aguas Calientes Pueblo and spend the night in our tourist hotel in the afternoon.

The Ancascocha Trek 4 Days experience concludes with a guided visit to the magnificent Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. We board one of the buses of the Consettur company to transport us and head towards the Inca citadel. Today, we have our guided visit to Machu Picchu for an average of 2 hours to visit the most outstanding sites of the Inca citadel. We have to walk for two hours between paths and steps of ups and downs to cover the guided tour and have the best panoramic views of the area. In the afternoon, we board the train service that takes us to the Ollantaytambo train station to return to Cusco.
