A large, bronze equestrian statue of the conquistador Francisco Pizarro by American sculptor Charles Rumsey (August 29, 1879 – September 21, 1922). Francisco Pizarro was born in Trujillo, Cáceres, Spain in modern-day Extremadura, Spain. His date of birth is uncertain, but it is believed to be sometime in the 1470s, probably 1474. Little attention was paid to his education and he grew up illiterate.

When they came back, they built majestic palaces near the Plaza Mayor and surrounds, most of them can be visited today. Francisco Pizarro came back and helped enrich his family. Among the most important monuments are the Castle (Alcazaba), the church of Santiago, the church of Santa María la Mayor, the church of San Francisco, the Church of San Martín, the Plaza Mayor, and renaissance palaces.

Lima Cathedral, Lima, Peru -August 02, 2013. The Basilica Cathedral of Lima is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the Main Plaza of downtown Lima, Peru. It started its construction in 1535. The conqueror Francisco Pizarro placed the first stone and carried over his shoulders the first log used in the construction of the Cathedral. In 1540 the church is officially inaugurated by Francisco Pizarro. Francisco Pizarro’s corpse, separated into head and body, were buried beneath the cathedral floor after his death in 1541.The cathedral contains one main central nave plus two additional side naves. This is the one of the side naves. The cathedral is visited by thousands of people everyday.
