This is an incredibly gemmy and colorful polychrome Tourmaline from the pegmatites of the Malkhan district in Russia, collected in the exploration and mining of the Sosedka Zone from 2012-2018. It is, without repairs and with perfect aesthetics, one of the best in size class for a miniature from these finds. No more will come, as the pegmatite is stripped down to the bedrock beneath in one of the most thorough mining projects we have seen. This stunning, 4.8 cm crystal displays superb gemminess, a fine termination and excellent luster. The coloration is exquisite with a deep cranberry-magenta at the top half, especially near the termination, and a and only slightly toned down similar color for the bottom half. For ultimate contrast there is a silvery white knob of Muscovite matrix at the base. The crystal faces have a pronounced vitreous luster with the prism faces displaying ever so slight striations. There are a few shallow-angle internal fractures in the bottom half that add character due to the added play of light to the interior. A fantastic piece from Malkhan, this is truly in the top of what is possible to obtain in the size class (large miniature or borderline small cabinet). We handled literally over 8 figures of value in material from this production - huge pieces to 20 inches, and more. And yet, this little guy still resonates, impacts, and made us pay attention on sight. It is literally the perfect balanced miniature with all the highest and best characteristics of this discovery, compared to previous Malkhan finds. It is a serious specimen, hidden away in a private collection until now.
