‘The Curse’ Full Trailer: Emma Stone Has a Breakdown in Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder’s A24 Series
Emma Stone has an uncertain feeling about her latest (meta) TV series.
The Oscar-nominated actress and “Poor Things” star leads A24 for Showtime series “The Curse,” co-created by co-stars Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie. The show will make its world premiere at the 2023 New York Film Festival before debuting on Paramount+ and Showtime.
Co-created and executive produced by Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder, “The Curse” is a genre-bending series that explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring in their new home-improvement show.
Stone stars as Whitney, who flips homes with husband Asher (Fielder) and converts houses into eco-friendly structures for the struggling residents of Española, New Mexico — all for an HGTV-style reality show being overseen by an ingratiating producer (Safdie) with demons of his own. From this premise, which touches on inescapable American issues of race, class, and capital, Fielder and Safdie branch out into an increasingly tangled network of ethical and moral gray zones, expertly balancing the tender and the merciless.
On top of that, an alleged curse disturbs Whitney and Asher’s relationship as they try to conceive a child while on location.
Guest stars include Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, Emmy nominee Corbin Bernsen, and Constance Shulman. The series is a co-production of Showtime and A24. Fielder also serves as a director. Actress Stone executive produces alongside Dave McCary and Ali Herting through their Fruit Tree banner. Josh Safdie also executive produces through his Elara banner with brother Benny.
The 10-episode series will premiere internationally on Paramount+ on November 10 in Canada and on November 11 in the UK, Australia, Latin America, South Korea, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
The first three episodes will premiere at NYFF as part of the Spotlight programming. Episodes 4 through 10 will be screened at Film at Lincoln Center during the show’s run, starting November 12.
