HOT NEWS! Super Mario Bros has been released on the C64!

Possibly the best news for this evening and one I really think is going to get those jaws dropping *AGAIN*, is the fact that thanks to a mighty heads up by Jammet, we have been told the C64 version of Super Mario Bros by ZeroPaige is now available for ALL to enjoy! Yes indeed one of the most eagerly awaited games to come to the C64 as announced some time ago possibly as far back as 2013, has been released and freely available.

External CD drive for the Amiga 1200? Take my money now!

Another top quality announcement has hit our inbox, as moments ago we found out through the Commodore Amiga Facebook group, that a developer by the name of Marc G. Falconer is working on an external CD based device for the Commodore Amiga! Yes indeed with the unreleased CD1200 not making an appearance in our homes and hacking the internal Amiga not to everyones liking. Marc G. Falconer aims to please with his external CD Drive through IDE and custom based case.

Vegetables - A colorful C64 Match 3 game, written for the RGCD 16k Competition 2019.

We have certainly been flooded with C64 news this week, what with the upcoming Super Mario Bros, Wormwood Preview and Neutron that have recently been announced. But now it looks as if another game is ready to grace our screens, as we've been contacted through our twitter page of the availability of an arcade puzzle game called ' Vegatables ', which has been developed by Mike Richmond for the RGCD 16k Competition 2019!

1942 - Browser based C64 shoot em up inspired classic

In 1984 a great shoot em up was released for the Arcade by Capcom and that game was 1942. A game in which you had to shoot down enemy planes, avoid being shot out of the sky and performed awesome rolls while collecting power ups. It was an awesome game and still is today, but the news of right now is, Bardon Boura has released a rather niftty little browser based inspired version of that Arcade/C64 classic.

Wormwood Preview - Early alpha version of a randomly generated C64 wormy platformer!

If you've got a C64 and want to play a game that's still in development, then you might be interested to know that Lemonspawn is working on a C64 randomly generated platformer called ' Wormwood ', which they also class as a 16kb classic roguelike action RPG in the spirit of games such as Diablo or nethack. In light of this news, Laxity was kind enough to make available an early preview to play that is still highly enjoyable even at this early stage.

Grim Earth - 2D platform game inspired by SNES/Amiga era gameplay coming 18th April!

As you all know we feature as many different games as possible from every walk of retro gaming life. Well today is no exception! As thanks to a heads up by George Allan; solo/indie developer who used to write 16-bit games (including Zool on the Amiga, and Pitfall on the Megadrive). He has told us he will be releasing a rather unusual 2D platform/adventure game inspired by Amiga/SNES era gameplay called ' Grim Earth ', which will be released through Steam early access ' 18th April '.

Night Knight - A new game coming to the MSX from Juan J. Martínez!

Juan J. Martínez is certainly no stranger to our website, creating amazing games such as The Dawn of Kernel, Magica, Golden Tail, Space Pest Control and Rescuing Orc to name but many of the awesome titles under his belt. But now it looks as if another game is soon to grace our retro gaming screens, as he has recently announced the MSX game of 'Night Knight' ; a platformer with a strong arcade feel that reminds him of classic MSX games from ASCII, Casio or Namco!

HOT NEWS! Super Mario Bros is coming to the C64!

Possibly the best news for today and one I really think is going to get those jaws dropping, as thanks to a heads up by Jim Farley in our C64 Facebook group, is the fact that he has told us Super Mario Brothers may be released for the C64 during this week! Funnily enough when a user way back in 2013 asked if there was ever a port of the original to the C64 and a reply of no, just a sprite hack of Giania Sisters. It came to be that a developer by the name ZeroPaige set out to make his very own C64 port as close to the Nintendo hit as possible, and one you will hopefully see any day now!

Haxor - 2D platformer with old era graphics and 8bit music gets a release

If you can't wait for Shakedown Hawaii and would rather play something action packed right now, then look no further than 'Haxor' developed by Fat Dog Games. Batman: The Caped Crusader DOS review by DarkwyndPT

I’m taking advantage of this opportunity to review a DC Comics licensed game (since I’ve already reviewed Marvel games). And I’m reviewing the first game ever to be released on the PC of my favourite DC superhero: Batman. Batman: The Caped Crusader is an action-adventure game developed by Special FX and published by Ocean in Europe and Data East in the US. It was originally released in 1988 for the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Apple II, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. It was re-released the following year for DOS.

Cosmic Force - Successfully funded C64 Kickstarter has 3 days left!

A brand new C64 game will be produced by Steven Fletcher and Wavem Studios. A brand new C64 shootemup inspired by Galaxian, Defender and Star Wars. The game's stages will be split into 3 distinct game types - each borrowing the key game mechanics from these classic arcade shootemups.

Super Spectrum World - Play through lots of classic Spectrum games as Miner Willy! (Jet Set Willy)

Now here's a game I think most of our readers would have played or heard of throughout the years, is Jet Set Willy. A platform game originally written by Matthew Smith and published by Software Projects for many home computers such as the ZX Spectrum in 1984. It star'd none other than Miner Willy who is tasked by the housekeeper Maria with the cleaning up of items left around the house after a big party. So why are we mentioning that classic game? Well today's news is something special, as thanks to a heads up via our twitter page, we have come across a rather interesting online game(s) called 'Super Spectrum World' by Stephen Smith!

Sardonic - Another arcade shooter appears on the Amiga!

We are not finished with the Amiga news yet! As moments ago we were told that *ahem* Penisoft had released their Amiga game of ' Sardonic ', which looks to be a remake of a PC game they released way back in 2003. Now unlike the other game we featured previously, this one is a top scrolling shoot em up by MADAXE, and features music by FRED as both OCS/ECS and AGA versions requiring 1MB Chipram.

Pathway - Beautifully pixelated strategy RPG set in the 1930s!

Another great looking game and no not a retro game that can be launched on an Amiga or C64 is Robotality and Chucklefish's Strategy RPG ' Pathway ', which can be purchased right now via GOG or Steam. This game that stood out on our twitter feed as an Indiana Jones style graphical experience, is a Strategy RPG set in the 1930's great desert wilderness, in which you must outwit your enemies in daring turn-based combat while raiding occult tombs!

RiverRaid Reloaded - A new River Raid clone released for the Amiga

While many of you are probably enjoying Project R3D's River Raid style game of ' Bridge Strike ', you might also interested to know that as of today Alpha One has released his River Raid clone of ' RiverRaid Reloaded ', which has been released for the Commodore Amiga. Now if you've not heard of this classic game before, that's because it was originally released in 1982 for the Atari 2600, and then ported over to many different systems such as the C64 and ZX Spectrum as a game viewed from a top-down perspective, flying a fighter jet over the River of No Return in a raid behind enemy lines.

Cathedral isn't the only retro inspired game we've come cross today with an update, as we've also come across a NES inspired title called ' Ravva and the Cyclops Curse ' which was developed by Galope for PC, MAC and Linux. Yes indeed welcome to another charming looking retro inspired game, as in Ravva and the Cyclops Curse you play as Ravva on a mighty quest to face an evil cyclops lord who has cast a curse on her own mother and stole her summoner powers!

Cathedral - Upcoming classy NES-inspired 8-bit adventure with new footage!

In 2016 Indie Retro News was one of the first sites to give you an updated look at Decemberborn's in development NES inspired 8bit adventure ' Cathedral ', which looks to have the charm of those retro classics while having cool platforming dungeons, unique aesthetics, new items, baddies to fight and puzzles in a world filled with secrets and side-quests. Well that same game has once again appeared in our inbox, but this time with two sneak peak game play teasers giving us an early glimpse at this upcoming game.

Antstream - A retro game streaming subscription service launches a Kickstarter!

As someone who is a huge retro gamer going right back to the late 70's with an Atari 2600, an Amstrad, C64, ZX Spectrum, Amiga and pretty much every other system you could think of at my disposal at one point or another through the years. I was pleasantly surprised to come across a retro gaming streaming service that had just appeared via Kickstarter, that could be a very good addition to my playtime other than real hardware or preference installed emulators. Titled as Antstream and developed as the brainchild of CEO Steve Cottam and inspired by his involvement in 3DO development, this service features a lovingly curated selection of games from a catalogue of thousands of fully licensed titles!
