The Fall of Prometheus - A Mythical action puzzler game is coming to the MSX


The MSX community are certainly no strangers to quality releases on the MSX, so it stands to reason why they needed more info about the latest announcement by Mystery Labs with their high grade action puzzle game 'The Fall of Prometheus'. Sure enough as of the end of last month, the new development team have revealed this latest MSX game will have over 30 screens divided in 3 worlds: Tanatos, Garden of Hesperides, and another secret one set in a mythological theme.

T-zer0 - Another DamienD Amiga CD to HD conversion and this one is a cool looking shoot em up!


After previously re-releasing The Big Red Adventure, Uropa 2 : The Ulterior Colony, Genetic Species and many others as fully playable Amiga games without the need for the original Amiga CD. DamienD has now moved on to T-zer0, which is a rather nice looking AGA Shoot em up, released in 1999 and published by PXL Computers for Amiga systems with a CD Rom drive.

Blazing Guns - Previously announced 2016 Amiga shooter gets an update


In 2016 we announced Aszu and team action platformer 'Blazing Guns' demo which was coded in assembler that ended up as a 9th place entry at the Retro Komp Gamedev Compo 2016. It star'd a gun slinging gangster that had the ability to run, jump and shoot at enemies such as bats in a game that featured 50fps, pure assembly code and dynamic action on 320x267 screens. Well as of today the game has a further update as now not only does it have a title screen, but a new team mode!

Castle Defender - BBC Micro's only tower defence game gets a release


We rarely feature BBC Micro games, but today's announcement is an exception, as thanks to a heads up by @ahope1 there's a new BBC Micro game in town and it's called ' Castle Defender ' developed by ChrisB. Available as a disk based BBC Micro B/B+ and Master system file, this game puts you in control as the defender of a castle, you must use defensive towers to protect your castle from attack and keep your health up at all times!

Pinball Dreams CPC - Fantastic Amiga classic previewed on the Amstrad CPC - Nightmare update!


At the end of last year we announced the fantastic Amiga pinball game ' Pinball Dreams ' by Digital Illusions CE in 1992 had finally been made available as a preview download on the Amstrad CPC by none other than Batman Group, creators of the scene demo Batman Forever. Well we are pleased to tell you that after much excitement and global Amstrad load ups of the brilliant preview, Batman Group has announced via the CPC forums the next table of 'Nightmare', which is now the latest update after ' Steel Wheel '.

VVVVVV Preview v2 - Another modern indie game to C64 conversion and this was the first one!


As many of you know, we were the very first to get the news out that the extremely challenging 2010 modern indie game of ' VVVVVV ' by Terry Cavanagh, was made available as a full conversion to the C64 by unctiover and released by Laxity. Well some of you were a bit confused and had asked us if this was the same conversion that was making the rounds some years ago, and our response was no it was not the same one, as can be seen by this latest VVVVVV Preview 2, which has now been released by Paulko64 on the C64.

VVVVVV + - Incredible news as modern Indie game gets a C64 conversion!


We are about to blow you away with possibly the BEST C64 release news of the week, as Laxity have released the full C64 conversion of the modern Indie game ' VVVVV ', which was originally released back in 2010 and created by Terry Cavanagh for multiple platforms including the PC. This puzzle platform game is a conversion of one of the hardest games you'll ever play but it's one of the best that has gathered countless high scores!

gdxBlood - Gory FPS classic is getting an unofficial Java port!


One of our readers ' Jeff Cotten ' has recently informed us that Monolith Productions and GT Interactive Software's gory first person shooter which we know as Blood, is getting an unofficial Windows port via Java by AxeleratorM210. Originally released as shareware in 1997 and the full version in 1997 for MS-DOS, this game was one of the bloodiest and horrific first person shooters of the era, as it featured zombies, undead butchers, cultists, hell hounds, giant spiders and further deadly enemies that would cover the floor in blood!

Wolfcastle McBain - New ZX Spectrum game inspired by The Simpsons character


Ask anyone in the world if they've seen The Simpsons they'd pretty much would all say yes, but ask if they remember the character McBain, named as Rainier Wolfcastle, they'd probably think of a cartoon version of Arnold Schwarzenegger, which this game is based on! Yes indeed, Wolfcastle McBain developed by C. Oscar Garcia, is their very first ZX Spectrum game made with La Churrera, and puts you in control of McBain, blasting away enemies in a top down view.

-=Alien Enemy: Dangerous=- - A preview of an early engine alpha on the Amiga


On the topic of first person shooters although not in the same league as the recent Project Warlock, here's a new tease for an Amiga game that is currently being shown off as a very early engine alpha, -=Alien Enemy: Dangerous=, coded by mastaszek for the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200. This footage shows us a glimpse of a game that is using some graphics from the hit PC game Quake, while having sound effects such as "Headshot" from Unreal Tournament.

The Last Ninja 2 +8DG - Hokuto Force celebrates via the C64 with a big trainer and more!


Are you bored with nothing to play, then come and play a hit C64 classic that pretty much everyone has heard of from the 80's, and one of System 3's greatest action adventure games from 1988 'The Last Ninja 2'; which has now been re-released as a +8DG by Hokuto Force with more than just a quick improvement. This fabulous game has been given the once over by Hokuto Force and not only features graphics fixes, but also a full trainer and with inclusive 1581 version.

Space Trip 2086 - A brand new C64 game released.


Space Trip 2086 is Psytronik software's latest C64 release. The download version is available to play now when pre-ordering physical copies of the cassette or disk version, which should be released later this month (April 2017). Not only does the pack contain the excellent Space Trip 2086, but there's also a mini side scrolling shootemup (Space Trip 2085), a sound track, and documentation included.

The Big Red Adventure - Multi-platform Adventure game, gets a DamienD Amiga release


In 1995 Core Design released ' The Big Red Adventure ' as a sequel to a very fun and comedic Adventure game ' Nippon Safes Inc ', which was released on multiple platforms such as the PC, as well as a CD-ROM for the Amiga 1200 and A4000 in 1997 by Power Computing. This rather well known game, which takes place in Russia after Michael Gorbatsjov's Perestroika, has been unofficially re-released for the Amiga by DamienD but this time without the need for the CD.

Astro Force - Another worthy contender for the SMS Coding Competition 2017


The Sega Master System homebrew scene is certainly giving me goosebumps this month, as another decent looking shooter known as 'Astro Force' has appeared via the SMS Power - SMS Coding Competition 2017 forums. Once again a high grade development, this one is an inspiration of other games such as RSG, Thunder force, Gaiares, Aleste,  R-type and MSX nemesis and features plenty of action to keep you busy!

Mecha-8 Demo - Mech based shooter aims to impress via SMS Coding competition 2017


Even more retro goodness made available as a demo on the SMS Power forums, is the recently shown  'Mecha-8 demo' for the Sega Master System "SMS Coding competition 2017". Developed by Nanochess this game is a high grade sneak preview of a top scrolling shoot em up that according to many, features top quality and polished gameplay, intro and cutscenes that set the mood, and plenty of in game blasting action!

Betelgeuse - Action top down shooter in dev for the NES


A new homebrew for the NES as retrogamedev has teased a very early work in progress footage of an upcoming game called ' Betelgeuse ', which according to the developer is a Zelda like shooter project. Although not much is known about the game's story or when it will actually be released, we can tell you the current version has an almost working engine which includes a sprite engine, collisions, animations and sprite flicker!

Sonic the Hedgehog Time Twisted - A high grade Sonic fan game, finally gets a release!


Do we have some great retro gaming news for you, as that legendary game character Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog game series, which appeared on multiple systems including the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear, has appeared in an all new high grade fan game as 'Sonic the Hedgehog Time Twisted', which has finally been released. Developed using GameMaker Studio, this latest fan game is modelled after Sonic CD, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and features a new story in which you need to collect Chaos Emerald and Time Stones to stop Metal Sonic from resurrecting his creator.

The Rise and Fall of Command & Conquer - A franchise retrospective by GVMERS


It's incredible to think that Command and Conquer now dates back to 1995, as the first game in the series and one of the earliest of the RTS genre's by none other than Westwood Studios, who were also famous for games such as Dune 2, Lands of Lore and even Legend of Kyrandia. It was a game series that featured full motion video cutscenes with a top quality cast to progress the story between each deep and involving strategy mission, that really set it apart in high quality from games that are even released today, which was a devastating blow when the company closed in 2003! Evil's Doom - An incredible RPG Dungeon Crawler from the Amiga gets an unofficial PC update


Cast yourselves back to 2014, when Indie Retro News did a special news release that the fantastic Amiga Dungeon Crawler ' Evil's Doom ' by Croatian developers Olympia Entertainment Group, was unofficially released as not only a PC launchable file but also as an Amiga HD install package thanks to dlfsilver. Well we are pleased to tell you that as of today, this rare game that was never officially released has been given the once over by The Company.PL and now works perfectly on Windows 10!

Gabriele Amore‎ gives us a glimpse at all of his unfinished ZX Spectrum projects


Gabriele Amore is certainly no stranger to us and the homebrew scene, as throughout the months he has released many brilliant ZX Spectrum games that range from highly challenging to pick up and play for all the family. But not of all his games that he has teased gets a release, as today Gabriele Amore has shown off all the ZX Spectrum games that remain unfinished. Which is a huge shame as can be seen by the video below, many look very good indeed.
