The famous movie starring Reese Witherspoon may be more than 20 years old, but Matthew McConaughey still accidentally gets all the fame for allegedly being in it, but he in fact never was.
Sweet Home Alabama, a 2002 romcom, also lists Josh Lucas among its main actors, though he doesn’t get too much credit just because of many fans’ common mistake.
The truth about the whole situation was recently revealed by Reese Witherspoon during her talk with People. The actress got to reminisce about her most astounding roles like Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Annett in Cruel Intentions or her Oscar-winning performance as Johnny Cash’s wife June in 2005’s Walk the Line.
When Sweet Home Alabama was brought up, Witherspoon couldn’t help mentioning the funny incident that keeps haunting her co-star from other films, Matthew McConaughey.

In Luca Guadagnino’s latest cinematic endeavor, “Challengers,” Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist form a dynamic, throuple-esque trio, each delivering performances that scream Oscar-worthy. The real question is, will Academy voters look beyond the palpable sexual chemistry to acknowledge the film’s artistic merit? That’s a challenge for the marketing maestros.
Penned by newcomer Justin Kuritzkes, the spouse of “Past Lives” writer-director Celine Song, “Challengers” weaves through a 13-year narrative, chronicling the life of Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a tennis wunderkind-turned-coach, who hatches a plan for her husband Art’s (Faist) comeback. The plan pits him against his ex-buddy and Tashi’s former flame, Patrick (O’Connor), setting the stage for a dramatic unraveling.

A New Orleans native who was raised in Tennessee, Reese Witherspoon is the very definition of good things coming in petite 5-foot-1 packages. She made her film debut at age 14 in 1991’s “The Man in the Moon,” a bittersweet Southern coming-of-age tale of first love and loss. From then on, she was pegged as a young actress to watch. She would soon gravitate towards edgier fare such as the underwhelming 1994 comedy “S.F.W.” and 1996’s “Freeway,” a rancid take on a Little Red Riding Hood on the run. She then scored a signature role as the rabidly ruthless high-school over-achiever Tracy Flick in 1999’s political satire “Election.” That was followed by her first major box-office hit, 2001’s “Legally Blonde,” as a perky Harvard student with a penchant for pink, feathered pens and cute Chihuahuas.

If the golden era of the high school movie was the 1980s, packed with John Hughes’ tales of wistful outsider girls and horny nerds, then mid-late ‘90s was the reprise. This was the era of Valley Girls (Clueless), the make-over movie, and of course modern updates of classic literature. Cruel Intentions fits into this category and takes it to the next level. It’s a teen high school movie full of shagging and spitefulness which has genuine consequences and treats its characters like adults, while allowing them the naivety of youth. It’s 25 years old, and it’s still sexy as fuck.
Based on the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ which was filmed memorably as 1988’s Dangerous Liaisons, starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, Cruel Intentions had wonderfully salacious material to work with but big shoes to fill.

Selma Blair is changing up her team.
The actress has parted ways with her agents at CAA as well as her publicity team at Narrative, sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. It also appears that she’s made changes to her management and legal reps as well. For years, Blair has been represented by manager Troy Nankin at Wishlab as well as attorney Cheryl Snow at Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.
It appears someone swapped out those names on Blair’s rep card on IMDbPro on Thursday with the names Ben Gaynor (also a manager at Wishlab) as her new manager and attorney Joshua Reitzas at Berlandi Nussbaum & Reitzas, though none of the names on that list were available for comment in the evening when THR reached out. Blair also did not return a request for comment, but it is understood that she made the decision to clean house.

It's hard to imagine anyone besides Alyson Hannigan as the unforgettable sidekick-turned-superpowered Willow Rosenberg in the hit series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but the casting directors almost went in a completely different direction. Indeed, the role nearly went to another accomplished television actor — Melanie Lynskey, the Emmy-nominated star of the acclaimed Showtime series "Yellowjackets."
The New Zealand actor kicked off her career with a leading role in Peter Jackson's 1994 film "Heavenly Creatures" opposite "Titanic" star Kate Winslet. She had also appeared in Jackson's 1996 horror-comedy "The Frighteners" -- which, like "Heavenly Creatures," was filmed in New Zealand — when she got the opportunity to audition for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Selma Blair is trying to dramatically walk back her self-admitted rage filled rant against Islam and members of the US Congress from a week ago.
“This is a time of great pain and anguish for many around the world, but it is also a time to learn and better understand how words matter,” the Cruel Intentions actress wrote today in a long statement on social media as the backlash against her continued to grow. “I respect and love all peace-loving communities, all over the world,” Blair added. “It was my Muslim friends who helped educate and show me the way. I am committed to paying forward their love and understanding. We cannot allow ignorance and rage to becomes our downfall.”
“I am dedicated to tolerance and peace for all who want it – not hate,” Blair went on to say at the end of the clearly crafted statement posted on her Instgram Tuesday afternoon.

Emerald Fennell is sharing her love of Gothic horror movies and twisted erotic thrillers courtesy of her favorite films list.

“Partly it’s that you can’t make a movie like this without it naturally kind of existing in that world. In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s long-awaited return to the small screen has been cut short.
Paramount+ has officially canceled Wolf Pack ten months after its freshman finale.
The series kicked off in January 2023 and picked up with a deadly fire ravaging California.
It triggered a series of supernatural events, and a group of teenagers came together under strange circumstances.
Gellar, best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played an arson investigator named Kristin Ramsey.
Despite spending much of the freshman season against the group of werewolves at the show’s core, the now-series finale found fans being let in on a big secret:
Kristin was also a werewolf.
Wolf Pack season 2 promised to be very different
The first season of Wolf Pack set the stage for a much bigger second season that will sadly never see the light of day now.

Since it debuted at the Telluride Film Festival last August, few films have generated more discussion on social media than “Saltburn.” The new project from Oscar-winning writer and director Emerald Fennell has captured the fascination of TikTok users, as videos adjacent to the film have consistently gone viral on the platform to the tune of more than 4 billion views, Deadline reported. On Amazon Prime Video, where “Saltburn” premiered in late December after its theatrical run, Fennell’s follow-up to “Promising Young Woman” has dominated the charts over the last few weeks to become one of Amazon’s biggest streaming debuts ever. Even the “Saltburn” soundtrack has hit: the 2002 song “Murder on the Dancefloor” reached the top of the Spotify viral U.S. singles chart thanks to its prominent placement in the final moments of the film, when star Barry Keoghan dances in the nude to the Sophie Ellis-Bextor track.

We remember the Alamo. Now, the Alamo Drafthouse is going to remember for you.
The movie chain is undertaking a year-long “Time Capsules” program, featuring curated films from 1974 to 1999.
Alamo Time Capsules is “a yearlong trek back through time that revisits both beloved blockbusters and forgotten favorites spanning six landmark cinema years — 1999, 1994, 1989, 1984, 1979, and 1974. Title collections will span six to eight weeks and, rather than act as a ‘top ten list’ of films, instead will tell their part of the story of that year in cinema, culture, and history,” the chain said in its announcement.
The retrospective runs all year and will include nearly 150 different selections. Time Capsule collections will include special merchandise, custom Alamo Drafthouse menus, and special events.
First up: the year 1999 begins with films like Being John Malkovich, The Blair Witch Project, The Iron Giant, Cruel Intentions, Jawbreaker, The Matrix, and Run Lola Run.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.

One of the great things about the old broadcast TV model, in which seasons stretched to 20+ episodes, mere months separated one season from the next, and production schedules were thus unforgivingly demanding, was that producers always had an insatiable need for new talent. Filming 22 consecutive 42-minute episodes over the course of a few months? Your principals aren't going to be enough to cover all the ground your story will invariably traverse, and besides, they wouldn't have the time or energy even if you asked.

Barry Keoghan has played a superhero and a supervillain, worked with Academy Award-nominated filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and Yorgos Lanthimos, and won global acclaim for his Oscar-nominated role in last year’s “The Banshees of Inishirin.” But none of his previous films presented Keoghan with the challenge and opportunity of leading “Saltburn.” The new film from Oscar winner Emerald Fennell stars Keoghan as Oliver Quick, an Oxford student whose obsession with an excessively wealthy classmate (Jacob Elordi) and the boy’s family has dire consequences.
“When I first read the script, I was amazed at just the different ranges and different layers of Oliver and how much I had to play with,” Keoghan tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. “That really excited me the most, how much I could dig my teeth into him. I was like, ‘This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of role.’”

The small screen adaptation of Cruel Intentions will stream on Prime Video, and details have landed for the show.
Cruel Intentions is a seminal teen film of the 1990s, planting the story of Dangerous Liasons firmly in late twentieth century youth culture, with star making turns from Selma Blair, Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon
It’s also the film that helped launch the big screen career of Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Now, Cruel Intentions is heading to the small screen in a fresh modern take (we assume). Many versions of a television adaptation have been attempted in the past, including a 2016 pilot which saw Gellar reprise her role, but ultimately none of them were commissioned.
At one stage, a television version did see the light of day, but it was released as Cruel Intentions 2, thanks to some hasty re-editing in post-production (and it didn’t share the lead cast of the film).
Anyway,...

The “Cruel Intentions” TV series is officially going to Amazon’s Prime Video.
The series was initially ordered at Amazon back in April, though at the time it was unclear if it would stream on Prime Video or Freevee, Amazon’s AVOD platform. The first season will consist of eight episodes.
Amazon has also confirmed the cast members for the series, many of whom Variety reported exclusively in June. The main cast will include: Sarah Catherine Hook (“First Kill”), Zac Burgess (“Totally Completely Fine”), Savannah Lee Smith (“Gossip Girl”), Sara Silva (“American Horror Stories”), Khobe Clarke, John Harlan Kim, Brooke Lena Johnson (“You”), and Sean Patrick Thomas (“Till”). Claire Forlani, Nikki Crawford, Isabella Tagliati, Zeke Goodman and Jon Tenney will appear in recurring roles.
“From the ‘90s cult-classic film to the 18th-century novel from which it was adapted, Cruel Intentions has captivated audiences with a story that transcends time,” said Lauren Anderson,...

It's hard to imagine the smash-hit series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" without Sarah Michelle Gellar as the titular lead. But believe it or not, the actor was almost cast in a totally different role in the series. After an Emmy-winning stint as the mean girl on the soap opera "All My Children," the "Buffy" producers had a hard time seeing Gellar as anything other than the hellmouth's resident ice queen, Cordelia Chase. Thankfully, she held out for the brave-hearted protagonist, but it almost cost her both roles on the show. She ended up scoring the part she wanted in the end, but she was up against some stiff competition -- including the actor who ended up playing Cordelia!
When the "Cruel Intentions" star first got the call to audition for "Buffy," she had just wrapped a movie in Australia and was excited to stay in the country for Carnival, she revealed in a 2002 interview.

Selma Blair is reflecting on her acting career after she “stepped away” when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
In a recent interview with Glamour for the magazine’s 2023 Women of the Year issue, the actress opened up about what she feels like she missed out on.
“I still feel like I never really hit my stride with acting because after Hellboy I was so sick that I really stepped away,” Blair said. “And because I wasn’t a huge star, no one came looking.” The actress starred in the 2004 superhero movie as well as its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, in 2008.
It wasn’t until 2018 that the Cruel Intentions actress publicly revealed her Ms diagnosis, and she has been in remission since 2021. However, she previously shared that she went undiagnosed for 40 years.
Since learning that she has the autoimmune disease, she has focused on other ambitions, including embracing...

What’s more dangerous than a teenage girl? Sexualizing one.
The fear of newfound sexual freedom, particularly the libidos of adolescent girls, were interrogated, explored, and — at times — exploited in ’90s-era high school-set psychosexual thrillers. From the age of characters portrayed, actors’ requests for body doubles, or the questionably problematic market for watching real-life teens undress onscreen, the eroticism of teens in the ’90s still has resonance today.
Now, as Todd Haynes’ “May December” shows the lasting psychological effects of the traumatic grooming of a male tween (Charles Melton), and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” charts a sexual awakening from a developing child mind in an adult body (played by Emma Stone), it’s only right to return to the trend of coming-of-age sexuality onscreen, most infamously weaponized by a niche genre trend of thrillers framed by teen female perpetrators.
Sex is back onscreen, but what did overt eroticism look like in films past?...
