A bold new color for the Nintendo Switch is here. The Mario company has just released a very red version of the Nintendo Switch OLED, and you can buy it now, for the standard SWOLED price of $349.99. It’s called Nintendo Switch OLED Model - Mario Red Edition, and it even has a couple of fun little Easter eggs built in for you to discover.
Nintendo Switch OLED - Mario Red Edition
Right up top, it’s worth pointing out that the Switch OLED - Mario Red Edition does not include a copy of Super Mario Wonder. That game comes out October 20, and you can find out more about it in our Super Mario Wonder preorder guide.
This new version of the Nintendo Switch OLED sports a docking station and Joy-Cons that are decked out in an attractive deep red color. That’s Mario red, baby. As for those Easter eggs, on the back of the docking station you’ll find a small silhouette of Mario mid-jump. You can also open the back of the docking station to reveal a bunch of coins on the square of plastic you plug the cables into. It’s a nice, thoughtful touch.
Underneath the red exterior, this is a standard Switch OLED, which is to say it plays all all Switch games and has a gorgeous, vibrant display. It comes with 64GB of onboard storage, which is double the standard model. It also has a much better kickstand than the original (which has a terrible, flimsy kickstand). But the real star of the show is the OLED display, which is bright and colorful, and a full 7 inches, compared to the original’s 6.2-inch LCD display. The size and visual improvement over the original hardware are instantly noticeable. It’s great.
The only downside is that the Switch is showing its age these days and will likely get a successor within the next year or two. Still, if you play your Switch in handheld mode a lot, you may want to consider upgrading, especially with bold red hardware like this.
