The show will reportedly offer a "modern spin" on the hit movie that starred Reese Witherspoon's Annette Hargrove by offering a present-day look at her 16-year-old son, Bash Casey.
The story will center around Bash, who, after finding his deceased father's journal and learning about his family's past, decides to leave his quaint Kansas life and enroll in a San Francisco prep school in an effort to find himself.
Kumble is set to direct the pilot episode, and will co-write the show alongside Cruel Intentions: The Completely Unauthorized Musical Parody creators Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross. Both Rosin and Ross are on board to exec produce, as well as Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty.
Cruel Intentions, isn't the only franchise NBC is looking to reboot, as the network has also confirmed a new Xena series is in development. Alex Osborn is a freelance writer for IGN. You can follow him on Twitter.
