Matthew Fox — who appears on the cover of Men’s Fitness touting the 40 pounds he shed to plays a ruthless killer in Alex Cross — tells the magazine that claims made by his Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan suggesting Fox “beats women” are “a pile of bulls—.”
Fox was referring to a tweet sent by Monaghan to his 50,000-plus followers last May, after a fan of both actors asked Monaghan to encourage Fox to join the social networking site.
Monaghan’s reply: “He beats women. No thanks.”
But what about “all those good times” they shared together, the fan asked, to which Monaghan replied, “How do you know we ever did? You don’t know either of us. He beats women. Not isolated incidents. Often. Not interested.”
The accusations were ugly — and, Fox’s camp insisted, unfounded, as the two men hadn’t communicated in “years.” What Monaghan was likely referring to was an incident from August 2011, when Fox made headlines in Cleveland, Ohio, for allegedly punching a female party bus driver in the groin and chest after she refused to let him board her vehicle.
The driver, Heather Bormann, filed a lawsuit but later withdrew it after her lawyers said she “intentionally failed and refused to provide full and timely cooperation and information,” according to the New York Daily News.
STORY: Dominic Monaghan Claims ‘Lost’ Co-Star Matthew Fox ‘Beats Women’
In May 2012, Fox was arrested near his home in Bend, Oreg., for driving under the influence. On June 1, 2012, Fox’s lawyer entered a plea of no contest to one count of DUI in Deschutes County Circuit Court, and said his client would enter a diversion program to avoid criminal charges, KTVZ reports.
“It’s been a long, trying year of sitting on my hands on a lot of negative s— said about me, when they’re the furthest things from who I am,” Fox tells Men’s Fitness. “In the 46 years I’ve been breathing on this planet, I have never hit a woman before. Never have, never will.”
Fox admits that of all the negative press, “the only thing that’s true is that I was arrested for a DUI.”
But he pledges that he’ll never make that mistake again.
“I will bet you any amount of money that I will never get behind the wheel of a car after even one drink,” Fox says. “The rest of it, the Cleveland situation, the Monaghan situation — was a pile of bulls—, and I’m not gonna waste too much breath on that.”
