CARL LEE PERKINS. Photograph of Sheet Music Cover signed:
"Love/Carl Lee Perkins" on reproduction of front cover. B/w with blue
hue, 8½x11. Reproduction of the cover for sheet music for the song, "Boppin'
The Blues", words and music by Carl Lee Perkins and Howard "Curley"
Griffin". "Boppin' The Blues", a country hit and minor pop hit, was later
the title of Perkins' 1982 album. Singer/songwriter Carl Perkins (1932-1998)
had a No. 1 hit with "Blue Suede Shoes", the first song to top the
rhythm and blues, country and pop charts at the same time, in 1956. In a
tragic twist of fate, Carl and his brother were seriously injured in an auto
accident while on their way to appear on television shows in New York City
(The Perry Como Show on Saturday night and The Ed Sullivan Show on
Sunday evening). While in traction, Perkins watched Elvis Presley perform his
hit on Sullivan's variety show. While his own career never regained its
momentum, Perkins, who was nicknamed the "Godfather of Country Music", continued
to record and write songs for other stars, including Johnny Cash (with
whom he toured as a guitarist from 1964-1975), Patsy Cline and the Beatles, and
his guitar style was highly influential. Before his death from throat cancer, he
saw himself elevated to "living legend" status and elected to the Rock &
Roll Hall of Fame. Perkins dropped his middle name, Lee, early in his
career to avoid being confused with Jerry Lee Lewis. Defects from original
cover, including creases and stains, have reproduced on this copy. Fine
condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 16x25½.
