CARL PERKINS
Black and white publicity photograph of Carl Perkins dressed in stage
outfit
Photograph signed: "Thanks/Carl Perkins/88". B/w, 8x10
overall, image 6¾x8¾ (one surface). Captioned at lower margin. Singer/songwriter
Carl Perkins (1932-1998) had a No. 1 hit with "Blue Suede Shoes" in
1956. In a tragic twist of fate, Carl and his brother were seriously
injured in an auto accident while on their way to appear on television shows in
New York City (The Perry Como Show on Saturday night and The Ed
Sullivan Show on Sunday evening). While in traction, Perkins watched Elvis
Presley perform his hit on Sullivan's variety show. While his own career
never regained its momentum, Perkins continued to record and write songs for
other stars, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and the Beatles, and his
guitar style was highly influential. Before his death from throat cancer, he saw
himself elevated to "living legend" status and elected to the Rock & Roll
Hall of Fame. Fine condition.
