How to Rename Your Hotmail To Outlook.com
Today, most of us are registered with a Microsoft account of some sort. If you want to migrate and rename your account to @Outlook.com, you can with a few simple clicks.
From what we have seen, Outlook.com has received a solid response from Internet users all over the world. Even though Microsoft transitioned to @Outlook.com years ago, many folks are still registered with @hotmail, @live, or even @msn accounts. If you want to migrate and rename your account to @Outlook.com, you can with a few simple clicks.
How To Change the Name of Your Hotmail Account to Outlook.com
- Log in to Outlook.com with your Microsoft email account. After logging in, click on the gear icon and select the Mail tab.
- Click Sync Email > Manage or Choose a Primary Alias.
- The next page may say “Change how you sign in to Microsoft,” but it’s also how you can create new email aliases. That’s what we want to do, so click Add email.
- Make sure Create a new email address and add it as an alias is selected. Type the username portion of your Hotmail, MSN, or Live.com email address in the field and click Add alias.
- You can leave the new settings as-is, or you can set your new @Outlook.com alias as the default. To do this, return to the Sync email settings and choose your preferred alias from the drop-down menu Set default From address.
That’s all there is to it. You’ll still receive emails sent to your Hotmail, MSN, or Live.com addresses, but you will send using the newer @Outlook.com account. While Microsoft hasn’t given any indication of ending support for the older email domains, you can’t register new aliases under them anymore. And, who knows, the software giant may one day decide to completely retire the names. If so, you’ll be good to go with your @Outlook.com email alias.

Bert, thanks so much for the feedback. You’re absolutely right, Microsoft long ago changed up the settings. This is a very old article, but I’ve updated it with the closest approximation Microsoft still offers to accomplish the task.

Thanks so much for the feedback. This is a very old article, and MS changed how to do this without really telling anybody. I’ve updated it with the closest approximation Microsoft still offers to accomplish the task.
