Remember Enya? Her New Video Is Weirdly Hypnotizing

Not to be outdone by Drake, Enya has released more mom jams.

I have a complicated relationship to Enya, the ethereal Celtic queen of the '90s. For the uninitiated, Enya's music is what your mother listened to when she needed some Me Time (think Lana Del Rey in 40 years.) In any case, I was a very angsty youth and one year for my birthday a well-meaning family friend gave me an Enya CD to help me calm down. I began listening to Enya all the time. All the time. When I couldn't sleep I would play "Only Time" on a loop, which is a very dark, grown-up thing for an 11-year-old to do. I still have a sleepy Pavlovian response to "Orinoco Flow."

So you can imagine my delight when I learned that Enya a.) is still around, b.) is still making sweet, sweet mom jams, and c.) has put out a weirdly mesmerizing music video. In the video for "So I Could Find My Way"—which you may watch only after I've finished explaining why it's so great—Enya stares at the camera, apparently hologrammed into an orchestra rehearsal. Enya's red dress, unblinking intensity, and the opening-credits-to-Twin Peaks vibe of the music gives the whole thing a David Lynch-y appeal. At one point a vine-colored column appears next to Enya, but otherwise nothing happens. This is like Norwegian slow TV-levels of nothing. It's mesmerizing.

Watch the video, enjoy the voice that Yahoo! calls "gentle like a spring breeze," and join GQ as we count down the days until we can listen to the other titles from Enya's album Dark Sky Island on November 20, which include "Diamonds on the Water" and "I Could Never Say Goodbye." Nor could we, Enya. Nor could we.
