If you don’t remember Alice Braga (her first name is pronounced ah-lee-see), it’s probably because the last time you saw her, you were looking at her back—tanned, glistening, and perfectly curved, beckoning you to the beaches of Rio from the poster for the Academy Award–nominated film City of God. Well, this is Alice’s face. And you should get acquainted with it, because on top of this month’s I Am Legend (in which she plays opposite Will Smith), she has recently filmed projects with Sean Penn, Harrison Ford, and Jude Law. It’s a lot for a 24-year-old from São Paulo to handle: “All these names—every night I go to bed thinking, Oh, my God, this is phenomenal.” Her strangest encounter? Meeting Tim Allen on the set of David Mamet’s Redbelt. “He was really goofy, but not just goofy-goofy, sort of…intelligent-goofy,” she says. “All he wanted to talk about was South American politics. I never thought I would be talking about Lula and Chávez with Tim Allen!” Um, neither did we.
