God hadn’t just been on his A game when he created this being. He’d decided to enter a new league. Rough, raspy, and purring, McKell’s voice was like hot butterscotch poured over—hmm, butterscotch.
Ava is a fantastic heroine and I adored her! She’s violent, tough, argumentative, feisty and contrary. And her loyalty to her best and only friend Noelle was AMAZING. Ava is the kind of person I would LOVE to be friends with. She hasn’t had an easy life, but she’s a fighter and isn’t intimidated by anyone. And the fact that she stabbed and stunned McKell was hilarious :-D
Why did she entice him so intently? She was beautiful, yes, but other women were more so. At least, he was certain someone out there was, though he had yet to meet her. And why did his mouth continue to water for Ava, even though he wasn’t legitimately hungry?
Now I love a bad boy just like most women and a guy who wears the finger bones of his enemies around his neck screams bad boy to me ;-) So of course I loved the dangerous vampire McKell. Sure he’s a bit arrogant, but confidence is sexy and I loved how obsessed and possessive he was over Ava.
“You don’t really like to be treated like a lady, right? Please tell me you don’t.” She’d told Noelle she was a fragile flower.
“I don’t. Treat me bad. Real bad.”
Things definitely starts off very interesting for Ava and McKell seeing as Ava and her best friend Noelle, had been tasked to capture McKell and bring him back to their A.I.R. headquarters. This leads to a lot of hilarious moments, seeing as Ava and Noelle knows just how to get a man’s attention and with McKell having the ability to manipulate time and refusing to let humans get the better of him it was very entertaining to see them try to get the upper-hand. I loved that both Ava and McKell was instantly attracted to each other and I really enjoyed their banter and watching them fall for each other. I loved seeing McKell realise just how special Ava really was, especially since in the beginning he looked down on all humans. And seeing how he devoted he became to her was so romantic. And the sexy times were SCORCHING which was awesome ;-)
The plot continues to be very gripping with the Schön queen finally arriving on Earth and setting her sights on Dallas, the second in command at A.I.R. and them trying to find a way to kill her without spilling blood.
Ecstasy in Darkness is definitely my favorite so far in this fantastic PNR series and I can’t wait to read Noelle’s book next. I loved every moment of this book and had so much fun reading it. Highly recommended.
"He had just meant to kiss her. To soften her. To begin her seduction, their romance, their life."Ava is introduced in this book, I didn't know what to expect about her but I was not disappointed. That girl is something else. She's still an agent in training with AIR and she works with her best friend and partner in crime, Noelle. As much as I loved Ava she still annoyed me at times. She's very sure of herself in her own way as well, she's not afraid to fight, she's very loyal, smart but then she could be very stubborn, acting stupid and it was infuriating.
"Maybe, since vampires seemed to live forever, he'd been on earth during the human/alien war some eighty years ago and had come into contact with some kind of nuclear ... something. Because damn. He was huge."I loved them together though. They really did complete one another. As usual with Gena the relationship building was perfect if a bit slow. They're both attracted to each other but McKell views humans as inferior and Ava doesn't want a relationship with him at all. It all felt right with them, I had to wait until 77% for the first actual sex scene but it was so worth it guys! So so so so worth it...! The sexual tension was there and I was really happy when they finally did it. Like, really happy. Heh. On a more serious note, I loved how vulnerable they made each other, the love they had for one another was beautiful and I loved it.
"She took, she gave, she conquered. Ultimately, she submitted."The secondary characters were amazeballs. No surprise there. Mia did annoy me a bit though. But I can't wait to read Noelle and Hector's story, I'm a little apprehensive because Noelle was quite childish in this book and I'm afraid of not liking her...but well, we'll see! Dallas was a very important part of the story and I hope he'll get his own book one day. We also get to see more of Devyn and Bride, my #1 couple. Oh and the newly vampire-dog, Hellina.
"The True Story of Hellina Tremain-McKell, How I Became a Real Vampire."Like I said, the storyline is connected to the previous books. With the Schon queen being here and wanting Dallas and basically wanting to infect the world, yay. The last 20% of the book were stressful, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen. Gena amazed me! I was really not expecting the ending, it was well done and I'm super curious to see what's going to happen next. Although, I found the very end a bit rushed.
"Want me to stay and read you a bedtime story?" Devyn asked. "Or I can share the painkillers I took from that nurse. You know, the one who has your flowers." He reached in his pocket and withdrew a handful of white pills.
"I thought you said you gave her the flowers because she looked sad."
"She did look sad. After she realized someone had stolen all her drugs."
"He came to me, so I don't have to wash a goddamn thing," she called, knowing Noelle was long gone.
"Still talking," McKell shouted from the bedroom.
"Still annoying me," she shouted back. - McKell and Ava
"So you weren't wanting the aid of another man?"
"No." She could barely handle McKell.
"Then I won't spank you."
McKell... spanking her... Someone get this man a paddle. - McKell and Ava
"Your franctic call dragged me out of bed, and I'm thirsty. So. . . Dallas. Beer? Blink once if the answer's yes." - Hector
"One day, Dear John, you're going to wake up, and your penis is going to be resting on the pillow next to you. Not that you'd notice its absence, small as it is." - Noelle
"Be a good boy and fetch me another drink."
"Darling, I can't. You know how jealous you get when every woman in the room watches my ass as I walk away from you. So, really, by refusing to help you, I'm doing you a favor." - Devyn and Bride
