A curious example of a very specific level of scepticism: Cannon can identify the reasons why accounts of the alien abduction phenomenon are suspect, but his alternate hypothesis is just as tenuous, and indeed even weaker than "aliens are abducting people"; at least alien super-technology can account for nobody stumbling across the aliens mid-abduction, but for the sort of mass kidnapping-and-hypnosis operation conducted by the US military he details here to work you'd need an enormous operation which would produce a ton of physical evidence, and at least one case of the abductors getting caught in the act.
