WR Jhamon Ausbon opts out of 2020 season

As was somewhat expected following Jimbo Fisher’s press conference comments earlier this week, Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon has decided to opt out of the 2020 football season. Ausbon is set to graduate from A&M in May and will then pursue a career in the NFL.

In his three years as an Aggie wideout, Ausbon caught 147 passes for 1,818 yards and eight touchdowns. He’ll leave Aggieland 8th in career receptions and 9th in career receiving yards.

Ausbon played with A&M quarterback Kellen Mond dating back to their senior year of high school at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and was by far the Aggies’ most experienced wideout after Quartney Davis and Kenddrick Rogers departed following the 2019 season. The unit was only made thinner by the offeseason transfer of Roshauud Paul (Arkansas State) and the season-ending injury of Camron Buckley in fall camp. In their absence, the A&M receiving corps will need to see some young but talented players step up. This group includes junior Hezekiah Jones, redshirt sophomores Jalen Preston, Caleb Chapman and redshirt freshman Dylan Wright, all former four-star recruits. They’ll also likely be joined by five-star true freshman Demond Demas, one of the top high school recruits in the country in the 2020 class.
