The English midfielder will be aiming to impress Gareth Southgate and start in his nation's quest to win the European Championships for the first time in the men's history. However, his chance to catch the eye may be put on hold until at least February.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Henderson's start to life at Ajax has been put on pause while the club apply for and await the result of a work permit decision. Since the UK left the European Union (EU), Henderson is not permitted to play without a work permit as he does not hold an EU passport. Despite his application being certain to be confirmed, the process can take a couple of weeks - delaying Henderson's return to European football.

THE EXPLANATION
