Kate Walsh Dishes on the TV and Movies that Inspire Her Love Life--and Reveals What Taye Diggs Really Smells Like!

We love Kate Walsh for her character Addison Montgomery on Private Practice (and Grey's Anatomy before that). She's the perfect dichotomy. Tough as nails doctor in her professional life---and a hopeless romantic who never gives up on her love life. And Kate is not that different from Addison.

We love Kate Walsh for her character Addison Montgomery on Private Practice (and Grey's Anatomy before that). She's the perfect dichotomy. Tough as nails doctor in her professional life---and a hopeless romantic who never gives up on her love life. And Kate is not that different from Addison.

She believes in romance and passion and just an old fashioned love story—so much so that she even created her own perfume line called "Billionaire Boyfriend" to celebrate that 'weak in knees, can't imagine my life without you' feeling in relationships.

ABC

"We definitely had lots of stories about crazy relationships not working and the travails of men and women and romantic comedies celebrating the female neurotic," Kate explains. "But, I felt like we didn't have any stories that were saying, Hey Guys! We really love you and when you're not around we really smell the shirts that you wear. The real romance to a relationship is that memory of him."

And so we couldn't resist. We had to have Kate take us on a walk down memory lane and dish on the Hollywood romances—from the big to small screen, from old school to today—that inspired her and never stopped her from believing in true love!

1. Say Anything__

Say Anything... — MOVIECLIPS.com

"John Cusack as Lloyd Dobler--he's funny, romantic and not afraid to make a fool of himself. He's not afraid to be a fool for love. I love that. He's like kind of like an outsider and edgy and cute. Just everything that I think everyone fell in love with him for while watching the movie."

2. Joanie and Chachi from Happy Days

I loved Scott Baio as Chachi and his girlfriend Joanie. He was super cute and tough and totally different then Joanie but they made it work. Joanie was kind of like a goodie two shoes and little daddy's girl and Chachi's a little tough and super cute and loyal. Remember they had a spin-off? Joanie Loves Chachi?"

3. Sam and Molly--Ghost

"The unrequited love thing is always, just always good like Demi Moore and Patrick Swazye in Ghost. Those are the ones that always work. Tragic love stories. The tear jerkers, they're awesome. Not to live through, no one wants to live that but to watch."

4. Eric and Tami Taylor—Friday Night Lights?

"On Friday Night Lights, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton's relationship was one of the best portrayals of husband and wife on television. That was awesome. They were both super warm, intimate, sexy, funny and real. It was a real working relationship but it was also interesting. It wasn't soapy but it was very real and human. It was like, Hey marriage can be sexy still.' They were just really human and they loved each other. They had such great chemistry. It's really something that inspired me to create the 'Boyfriend' brand."

5. Addison and Her Men on Grey's Anatomy

"I kind of liked her sort of broken relationship with Mark Sloane."

"I also loved when she had her little make-out or steamy moment with Alex Karev."

6. Addison and Sam (AKA Taye Diggs) on Private Practice (Oh and of course Jake too!)

ABC

"I think out of all of [the men on Private Practice], I really love the Sam/Addison thing. I don't know if its because there is such a warmth with Taye or the ease and a bit of humor there. It does get hard to discern between the actor and the character because we've been working together for so long. There's Benjamin Bratt too and he was pretty fantastic as Jake. I think the fun thing about Addison is as promiscuous as she has been, its like the moments where there's little kisses. You talk about the art of wooing, making out is an art too. The kiss, a kiss is not just a kiss."

"Addison keeps trying. She keeps trying. But I identify with that, I really do. I think of the trying girl, I really identify, alright keep going, keep trying. What else do you do, you persevere. I identify that with both in work and relationships and all. Your like, 'Okay, keep going.' I think otherwise as an actor you would particularly would have just given up a long time ago if I didn't have that in me. Because this is just such a crazy business."

7. The Artist

"I feel like those black and white romances were so incredible. And that is why this last year I loved The Artist so much because I loved that relationship. I loved this sort of longing of each other and sort of joy. She actually fought for him in the end, which was awesome."

8. And All Those Other Classics . . .

"I really love that the old movies for me had that sassy kind of writing between the male and females leads. Like Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday. Just like these old William Wyler movies like Roman Holiday that were great love stories."

"Before I went to Italy to shoot Under the Tuscan Sun, I went and saw Roman Holiday for the first time on the big screen and there was Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in the most beautiful scene, sweeping romance and serious romance.

These are great characters and great absurd obstacles--like shes a princess on the run. He's showing her around Rome and she's having a normal life for a moment. Yet, its so dreamy and so delicious and I feel that those are the things that i kind of miss and wish were happening a little bit more now--that witty banter between adults, not necessarily based on a neurotic female character."

9. And One Last Thing on Taye Diggs. . .

"He's the best smelling actor. It's true. He's why they should invent 'Smellavision.' He is just dreamy and he's got some secret potion--some concoction! Its so subtle and wonderful--it's like happiness, goodness and complete sexiness. It's like ridiculous. He's got some weird mixture of things that he wears where its fantastic. He's one of my main subjects to test for 'Boyfriend.' He smells that good."
