The lead singer of British rock band the Who turned 80 today

Roger Daltrey has been inundated with compliments and well wishes as he returned to social media to celebrate his milestone 80th birthday.

The My Generation hitmaker is best known as the front man of the legendary rock band the Who and has been performing on stages across the globe for the best part of six decades.

To mark turning 80, Daltrey shared an update with the Who's worldwide fanbase on Instagram where he posed in a new snap with a can of his home-brewed beer.

"What better way to mark your 80th birthday than having your own beer made by your family brewery," the caption.

"A very happy birthday Roger!" it continued before adding a footnote that Daltrey's beer isn't available for fans to buy.

But while several fans rushed to wish the veteran singer a happy birthday, others couldn't believe how young the 80-year-old looked.

Taking to the comments of the post, one the Who fan commented: "Can’t believe Roger is 80 now. He looks a bit younger than that."

"Happy 80th birthday Roger! Can’t believe it!!" another echoed. "Have a wonderful day!"

"The tough guy (looks) like he stopped at 59. Happy birthday Rog!" a third praised while a fourth similarly complimented: "Happy birthday. Wow you’re certainly amazing for 80!"

Elsewhere, a fifth weighed in: "And not looking a day older than 50 Happy birthday Rodger, have a good one mate."

And the flattering remarks kept on coming as a sixth commented: "Rog is 80?!!! No way!!! Looks at least a third less than that! I’d say half, but then he’d be younger than me & that’s just not true. He looks brilliant & I fancy him to death!"

Another also heaped on the praise: "Ya don't look a day over 50, 'Tommy'! Many MORE happy returns of the day!" (sic)

Daltrey's 80th birthday celebrations come just weeks after he admitted he'd been reflecting on his own legacy.

The singer hasn't been immune to health woes in recent years, including a serious bout of viral meningitis in 2015.

"My dreams came true so, listen, I’m ready to go at any time," Daltrey confessed to the Times last month.

He continued: "My family are all great and all taken care of. You’ve got to be realistic.

"You can’t live your life forever. Like I said, people my age, we’re in the way.

"There are no guitar strings to be changed on this old instrument."
