Metal Gear Solid 4 remaster teased, will finally be playable outside of PS3

With Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 now out in the world, fans of the much-loved stealth video game are already turning their attention to the future of the series. Luckily for them, unearthed evidence shows that a Master Gear Solid 4 remaster may be on the cards.

This week welcomed the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The remaster modernises Konami’s 1998 Metal Gear alongside its sequel Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and it seems the same treatment may be given to later instalments in the franchise.

According to one Reddit user, there are references to a remastered version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain in the PC launcher for the collection's version of Metal Gear Solid 2.

“While digging through the scripts for Metal Gear Solid 2 Master Collection Launcher (it's in Unity, easily decompilable with something like dnSpy), I discovered multiple strings related to Peace Walker, 4 and 5”, the post read. “There's a function for finding the right path to read assets for. They have listings for all the Volume 1 games, but also 4, 5 and Peace Walker, hinting that those may actually be part of the rumoured Vol 2.”

It can be assumed that the collection being titled ‘volume 1’ would hint at fellow volumes but this is yet to be confirmed by Konami. However, this is an exciting rumour as it will mark the first time Metal Gear Solid 4 will be unlocked from the PlayStation 3.

Until then, fans of the series can now dive into Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 to relive their experience with the classic action-stealth titles. Let us hope we can still do the same with the remainder of Konami’s franchise in the future.
