PS4 owners use the machine way more for games than TV and movies
Sony adds that 90 percent of the 4.2 million PS4's sold worldwide have been connected to the Internet.
PlayStation 4 owners spend twice as much time playing games than they do watching movies, TV, or any of the other entertainment options that the console offers, Sony has said.
Speaking at a media event in the US, reported by IGN, Sony marketing VP John Koller said that PS4's 4.2 million owners have averaged 34 million hours a week using the machine to play games, with another 16 million hours spent using the machine's entertainment apps.
Owners of the machine are also keen to hook it up to the Internet. Sony has said that at least 3.78 million PlayStation 4's--90 percent of the 4.2 million sold worldwide--have gone online.
It took the PlayStation 3 three years to convince only 70 percent of owners to connect online, although some of the PS4's higher digital take-up is likely to be attributed to a greater prominence of broadband connectivity around the globe than when the PS3 launched in 2006.
Koller also says that 33 percent of Vita owners have also splurged on a PlayStation 4 since its launch in November 2013, and that 48 percent of Vita software sales are digital.
What's next for Sony, then? "We are viewed the most authentic brand," added Koller to GameSpot, "so we have a leg up there but we've got a lot of work to do to make sure that when we're going into work with a publisher or when we're going into work with our own first-party team, we say: here's the emotion we want to bring and here's the engagement [we want]...what can we do?"
