AGRETTI SEEDS

Salsola soda

Very limited supply of fresh seeds for 2024!

An interesting halophyte native to the Mediterranean. Its botanical name speaks to its historic use in the production of soda ash. Also a beloved Italian vegetable with a bright salty flavor and fantastic succulent crunchy texture.

Agretti seeds are viable for less than one year and should be sown promptly upon receipt. Best started indoors in flats. No special treatment is required, though some sources state that soaking will hasten germination. Soaked or not, the germination rate is often disappointing, so sow generously. Seeds will sprout in a week or three given warm moist soil in bright light. Thin to one plant per cell and transplant well-rooted seedlings to the garden in spring. Seeds may also be sown directly into warm garden soil. Water frequently.

Though native to saline soils, these plants will grow quite happily just about anywhere as long as they receive adequate moisture and light. Useful as a companion plant for common garden vegetables in saline soils, from which these plants effectively remove salt.

Packet contains at least 100 seeds.
