Description

The inferior intervertebral surface is the flat, rough area on lower aspect of the body of a lumbar vertebra. It is surrounded by a smooth outer rim, known as the inferior annular epiphysis.

Overall, the intervertebral surfaces of vertebrae provide attachment sites for the intervertebral discs. Adjacent vertebral bodies articulate with each other via intervertebral discs, forming the intervertebral symphysis joints.
