About this product

Product Information

The Resident Evil series began on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn but the Saturn only received one game while the PlayStation received a few sequels. Making its first appearance on the Dreamcast, Resident Evil -- CODE: Veronica picks up where the PlayStation's Resident Evil 2 left off. Raccoon City is where it all began. <br><br>There, the Umbrella Corporation performed scientific experiments that went wrong. The result of their experiments was a virus that led to the creation of a huge number of zombies as well as a variety of other creatures bent on a path of death and destruction. As members of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad), players did the best they could to stop the Umbrella Corp.'s madness, but ultimately Raccoon City and all of its inhabitants were wiped out. Despite their failure in Raccoon City, Umbrella Corp. continues their experiments in their facilities located throughout the world as they attempt to create a powerful bio-weapon. Players first take on the role of Claire Redfield who had a starring role in Resident Evil 2. Before the start of the game she had been searching for her brother Chris Redfield, a hero from the first Resident Evil who is currently investigating Umbrella Corp.'s activities in Europe. <br><br>After sneaking into an Umbrella Corp. facility in France, Claire was captured and transported to an Umbrella Corp. prison in South America. The game begins shortly after arriving at the prison when a lab explosion occurs allowing Claire to escape. Now, you must figure out exactly where you are and what is going on. Oh yeah, and there are zombies all over the place! The main character is Claire Redfield but players will also be able to play as her brother Chris Redfield. In previous Resident Evil games players had the ability to play the game as different characters as well. However, this time players will not be tackling the same puzzles and seeing the same things as they play through the game with each character. This time the characters are being used during the same adventure. <br><br>Also new to the series is that some of the weapons are doubled up. With a weapon in each hand players can target multiple enemies or do twice as much damage to one target. Weapons featured in the game include: a combat knife, Beretta M93R, crossbow, M79 Grenade Launcher (along with grenades it can fire napalm, gas, and acid), French SPAS-12 Shotgun, Magnum, dual automatic handguns, dual Uzis and an AK-47 Assault Rifle.<br><br>All of the backgrounds are rendered in real time, are completely three-dimensional and all of the action moves at a constant 60 frames per second. In the first three Resident Evil games, much of the action was viewed from fixed camera angles. However, this time around the camera does not jump between fixed angles as often. Most of the time a camera will follow your actions, panning and zooming at the appropriate times. As players progress through the game, real time cinemas will appear at particular moments. During the cinemas players will be able to read a character's emotions through their facial expressions. Set over two GD-ROMs, the first 128-bit Resident Evil game is the largest of the series to date.

  • Superb Addition to Resident Evil and any collection

I first played this game a number of years ago on the PS2, when it was ported over to the PS2's audience. I actually got my Dreamcast a few years after I got my PS2 in order to play a few unique games like Soul Calibur (at the time), Shenmue and Marvel v. Capcom 2. From what I read, the Dreamcast version is actually tighter than the PS2 one. However, my experience on the PS2 was nothing short of amazing. I played through RE4 a number of times, and intend to get RE5 for PS3, but I remember the experience of Code Veronica like it was yesterday (although I honestly forgot most of the game). It has that classic feel of RE2 with a slightly more modern scheme close to, but not that close, to RE4. It is also the only one with Chris and Claire in the same game. Right there, that is enough ...

  • Resident Evil Code Veronica

This is my favorite Resident Evil to date, although Resident Evil 4 is not so far behind. This has great graphics and all the key elements of Resident Evil, all of the puzzles and zombies that you could ask for. In this version, you hold the R trigger to shoot just like all the other Resident Evil's but they added a great feature, tap the L trigger to switch targets! This is great when you have 2 or more zombies walking towards you...fire a couple rounds into one, tap the L trigger and fire a few into the next and so on. It is definitely one to get if you are a fan of Resident Evil. This game is also available on PS2 and Gamecube.

  • By far the best game on Dreamcast!

This is by far the best game for Dreamcast ever released!!! Now lets just get this straight. Resident Evil 4 is the best Resident Evil of all time, this game rivals RE:2 for the second best title. When this game first came out it was the longest Resident Evil to date...recently beaten out my RE4. This game was a major break from the series in that alot of the graphics weren't prerendered. The storyline is probably the most compelling of all the Resident Evil's. The story goes much deeper and you really get to "care" about what happens in the end. Load times are significantly decreased in comparison with past RE games due to the speed of the Dreamcast which ehlp the story flow better. Of course the music, sound effects and controls are all what you'd expect from Resident Evil. Although, ...

  • Gameplay

This is a really great game, I love code veronica. The graphics really show how powerful the dreamcast was in its time. I think with some sponsors Sega needs to come back strong with a hard core gaming system and compete with the new generation. I mean gaming like this from the past still excites me to purchase them today.
