About this product

Product Information

In the mythical world that is Middle-Earth, only you can complete the mission of a lifetime for an enigmatic wizard and his party. In the 2003 Hobbit game for the Microsoft Xbox console, gamers play as Bilbo Baggins of the Shire and embark on a fantastic journey. Travel with your companions through dangerous lands while jumping, climbing, and grabbing your way through various situations. While armed with weapons, such as the magical sword Sting, a walking stick, and the power of a mysterious invisibility ring, encounter and fight off enemies, including spiders, orcs, trolls, and Gollum. Partner with mythical creatures as you journey toward the ultimate confrontation against Smaug the dragon. Covering the events of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, this title takes players on an epic journey with a troupe of dwarves and the mysterious wizard Gandalf the Grey. An adventure game in the vein of the Zelda titles, The Hobbit presents players with exciting hack-and-slash gameplay and puzzle mechanics. The graphics take advantage of the powerful Xbox hardware and the sound design is spot on for the tone of the quest.Memorable characters from the novel appear all over the lands of Middle Earth in The Hobbit. The cast of Bilbo's traveling companions is present and will help to start the young Hobbit’s adventure upon the arrival of Gandalf the Grey. While some creative liberties are taken in order to aid the transition from novel to video game, the book's plot is followed closely throughout the course of the quest to the mountain, allowing players to relive Tolkien's beloved tale. The aesthetics of the title take a lighthearted approach, presenting Bilbo Baggins in a cute way that starkly contrasts the gritty appearances of other games based on Tolkien's novels. All of the game's environments are given vibrant detail from the gorgeous and secluded Shire to the foreboding and deadly Lonely Mountain. Character models and animations are well-done, appearing fluid and realistic. Trolls wobble, dwarves waddle with surprising alacrity, and the titular hobbit scampers with surprising realism. A melodic score accompanies the player as they tackle the game's challenges, and the production quality rivals some cinematic films.Being a resourceful little Hobbit, Bilbo will battle his enemies with both wits and weapons, and players will need to problem-solve their way through various areas in order to progress through the game. Along the way, Bilbo will find useful items and allies to assist him in his quest, eventually leading him to the epic conclusion found at the base of Lonely Mountain. Story progression is linear and there is no open-world gameplay. Quests feature heavily in The Hobbit, and Bilbo will find many friendly faces to aid during his journey, with objectives and challenges getting progressively harder as the game goes on. Adventure puzzles and platforming are abundant with players needing to find essential items, move objects around, and jump to victory in order to succeed. Bilbo can use stealth, guile, or misdirection to overcome adversity. The Hobbit has the option of hopping, rolling, or climbing his way over obstacles. This title is backward compatible with the Xbox 360.

  • This game is lovable, just like a hobbit :)

If you are someone looking for a nice, safe, nothing violent game, for you or your kids, this is the one. Bilbo Baggins begins his journey to the Lonely Mountain in the Shire, where you will have a "precious" time gathering what he needs to begin travelling. You will remember King's Quest at this stage. But as you advance, it get's better and more interactive, with fighting and getting through tough stuff to help Bilbo get to Smaug the Dragon. Lots of trasures, Sting, Trolls, Gollum, and jewels and coins. The graphics are "lovely", not very sophisticated but they go well with the theme, a fairy tale for kids. For grown ups, well, we're used to much much more now, but trust me, you will have a good time anyway. The down-side and the reason why I gave it a Good rating and not an excellent: ...

  • Good Graphics and Challenging

My 6 year old son and my husband both love this game. I'm not sure wh olikes it more. It is challenging enough to keep my husband interested, but easy enough that my son feels like he can play it, too. I like the story behind the game, so I am not really bothered when it is on. It is probably best suited for ages 8 and up.

  • The Hobbit xbox

Great game! It has many different levels and takes a while to complete the game. It is fun to try the different quests that Bilbo has to accomplish. He also gets stronger as the game goes on with more skills. My 7 year old really likes the game. He likes Lord of the Rings, but isn't allowed to play the LOTR T games, so this is a nice alternative for him since it is rated E. It is a little hard in some parts for my 5 year old.
