About this product

Product Information

After years of celebrating rock & roll culture and making gamers feel like guitar gods, Activision turns its attention to hip-hop pioneers like Kool Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore by offering players more than 80 original mixes to blend, juggle, and scratch in DJ Hero. Featuring a variation of the "note highway" mechanic popularized by Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and incorporating a turntable-and-mixer peripheral controller, DJ Hero finds gamers manipulating a crossfader and effects knob with one hand, while using the other hand to press three gameplay buttons located atop a fully rotatable faux record. Instead of increasing difficulty by making players account for more buttons, DJ Hero begins to incorporate more scratching and crossfader movement in an attempt to foster a more authentic feel.

Developer FreeStyleGames worked closely with world-renowned artists DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, DJ AM, and Cut Chemist to create a realistic experience, and all four DJs contributed original mixes and mash-ups. DJ Hero also features DJ Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash as playable characters, but the game does not mine its track list solely from the world of hip-hop, featuring portions of more than 100 individual songs from artists such as Marvin Gaye, Beck, Nirvana, Daft Punk, and Tears for Fears. The game takes players to a variety of locations designed to mimic real-life party hotspots, and gamers looking for multiplayer action can hook up multiple controllers for competitive "DJ vs. DJ" mode, or the co-operative "DJ + DJ" and "DJ + Guitar" modes.

  • Good, but not a guitar hero or rock band.

Graphics: 3/5 stars Gameplay: 5/5 stars Music: 5/5 stars Overall: 4/5 stars I am sure you have seen this in stores or on TV or have possibly read about it. This is released by ACTIVISION in 2009 in hopes to be a hit like guitar hero or rock band. It uses a turntable device to imitate a real DJ. I recommend this for anyone that is very coordinated and has video gaming experience. Anyone that has a hard time or beginner is going to have a difficult time fully appreciating this game. The music however is very entertaining. You can also unlock music and have add ons. The beats are very good. You will get tired of this game after 4-5 hours. Overall it is 4/5 stars. Description Introducing players to an all-new innovative turntable controller, DJ Hero transforms players into DJs who rule the ...

  • patience plays(for cheap)

I have been dabbling in dj'in for a few years now. i use virtual dj with a bcd2000 mixer and some Gemini turntable with some time coded vinyls. go to virtualdj.com to learn more. Any way being a dj is not easy it really takes practice. picking songs and having them sound decent is no peace of cake. because of college my equipment was collecting dirt. here is where dj hero comes in. I have always envied turntableism so when a game came out that not only picks mixes for you and has a turn table it was a no brainer for me. at first the price was a barrier so i waited a few mounths and through ebay magic i got one for around 25 bucks which was well in my budget pros 1. if u love hiphop u will love this game. 2. if u love being a dj you will love this game. 3. the mixes are really good. 4. ...

  • DJ Hero, ten times better than Guitar Hero

I bought this game hoping it would be something like its brother Guitar Hero, and let me tell you it is much, much, MUCH better than Guitar Hero for countless reasons. One being it doesn't so much push how great "rock music" is and actually has songs everyone will enjoy. I dont know why but for some reason even after 6 or 7 versions of Guitar Hero there is still only 3 or 4 good songs on each one. Dj's mix all kinds of music so this really covers all spectrums of music making everyone happy with the selection. Also they've added new difficulty settings so theres no more being stuck in between difficulties. That also may come from the fact that you dont just press buttons and strum you scratch, press buttons, crossfade, tweak levels, and spin. For all these reason and more DJ Hero is not ...

  • DJ Hero Game and Turntable Controller

I like this product as it is centered on a center genre of music: dance. With the "Guitar/DJ/Band Hero" series, it gives you the ability to play an instrument, simplistically, but interesting enough to keep your attention. And with DJ Hero, it caters to an audience possibly a little less noticed by mainstream, as it lets you learn how to DJ hit songs. While one song was a little questionable, the overwhelming majority are fine, and the graphics are very interesting, even giving a choice in DJ's, from made-up characters to actual DJ's like Daft Punk. The controller is very responsive and simple, with three buttons/switches for each hand to occupy, and allows for right- or left-handed DJing.Overall, this is a well-made game for the first installment, and sets the stage for DJ Hero 2 to take ...

  • DJ Hero

Theres a lot of great mixes to play through and each one can be mastered in 5 different skill levels. Not all the mixes are great(there were a few i personally did not like)but the game is fun, you really feel like a DJ. The platter can be used for right or left handed play so its fun for all. I have yet to try the Online feature, I am trying to play through all the different levels before i have my ... handed to me :-)... NOTE though the description says Xbox 360, the system is actually PS3
