Notes
Over 50 rare nuggets from the Fab Four's earliest (1958-1964) days, included the fabled Decca audition tape that the label, to it's eternal dismay, rejected, plus early Quarrymen recordings (That'll Be the Day), a version of Love Me Do with Pete Best on drums, a demo of Can't Buy Me Love, You Know What to Do (the second song George ever wrote) and many more essential, oft-bootlegged-but-never-sounding-so-good Beatles rarities.

The record was packaged in the way I would package a record, so I'm very pleased. It arrived in perfect conditio. I highly recommend this seller. I appreciated the "thank you and receipt. Thank you VERY MUCH! Record is great. Side note - it has the original Lazarus Dept store tag of $4.99(what the seller charged me for this record). I shopped there when making trips to Dayton, OH for NCR in the 1980's. :-)

Beautiful boxed jewel case with art work.

This collection is an absolute must for any serious Beatles fan. Anthology 1 covers the early years hits and then some . I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

  • Great CD set

Positives: For anyone who loves, likes, or is even moderately interested in the Beatles, Anthology 1 is an excellent addition to your music library. From home recordings made in the late 1950's to alternate takes and classic performances, such as the Royal Variety Show in London and the Ed Sullivan Show on their first U.S. visit, these discs contain a fairly comprehensive view of early Beatles history. Minor Negative: In some cases, the sound quality sounds suspiciously like you are listening to something recorded live on primitive equipment in the late 50's/early 60's. Oh, wait. You are. Just don't expect too much sound quality and you won't be disappointed. Major Negative: The alternate takes on the Anthology series are very interesting to hear. ...

  • Wonderful rare glimpse of the Beatles. A+++++.

What can be said about the Beatles? The ultimate band of all time. I had this album about ten years ago and through many moves, it got lost. I had forgotten about it for some time because I have many other beatles albums to fill my need. This year when my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, this was one thing. It is very hard to find in stores because it is so great!!! A wonderful rare glimpse into the beginnings of the beatles. A must have for die-hard beatles fans.

  • Anthology 1 is an Interesting History Lesson

The Beatles Anthology 1 makes for a great history lesson for those interested in the genesis and early career of the world's best loved rock and roll band. Sound quality is lacking in some places but is better than expected when considering that some of the earlier recordings were made by propping up a single mic to capture all of the instuments and vocals. The few live concert recordings are great. Those thinking of purchasing this album should note that this one is for die-hard Beatles fans and students of late 50s / early 60s rock only. Casual fans will probably not find much of interest here. New fans should probably start with "A Hard Days Night" , "Rubber Soul" , or one of the other excellent Beatles studio albums.
