Since the video preview posted yesterday, I spent some time on creating a new font. Unfortunately, this game only has full-width (22x22) font-rendering built-in. I have yet to be successfully in reducing the pixel width by a third or half.
That being said, this new font's lettering is thinner than the previous and as such, it definitely has an improved look. If this is as good as I can get it, then I'm happy! Here are a few previews...

What did I just see?
Anyway this is looking good, I like the clean text style.
ateam slow down a bit, I don't think my backlog can keep up.

The New font is great !
Of course it will be better to have a complete vwf like shift jis table. But the result is quiet good, be proud of you

Can't wait for the finished product and to see how it ties in with the main Samurai Shodown series.ateam wrote:Hi all!
So since I just can't stop myself, I've begun another English translation project for our beloved SEGA Dreamcast! The game in question is Nakoruru: Ano Hito kara no Okurimono (ナコルル〜あのひとからのおくりもの〜), which I have dubbed "Nakoruru: The Gift She Gave Me". When completed, this will be (to my knowledge) the one and only English language visual novel for the SEGA Dreamcast, aside from the indie title "Divi-Dead". It's actually a spin-off of Samurai Shodown/Spirits, which makes this even cooler.

Re: New English translation project (Nakoruru: The Gift She Gave Me)
And the fun begins on the keyboard game! This is one of the several minigames scattered throughout "Nakoruru: The Gift She Gave Me". In this game, the player learns how to perform the little melody that Nakoruru is heard singing many times.
My goal here is to present the English lyrics and the Romaji so that the player can key in the phonetic sounds of the song's three verses.
Just some testing, ignore any glitches or missing characters please.
Just a way to keep track of the expected character input during my testing.
Early drafting of the modified keyboard.

Re: New English translation project (Nakoruru: The Gift She Gave Me)
Just a little preview for those interested
As you can see, we've got our English lyrics at the top (with creative liberties taken for purposes of natural poetic flow and limited screen real estate) and our Romaji at the bottom. The player gets to learn the meaning behind Nakoruru's song throughout four different iterations of this minigame, including the phonetic pronunciation. Originally, this game was a very elementary Japanese keyboard test for players, and this is the best I can do to deliver something in this patch that A) makes sense and retains the original purpose of the minigame and B) is actually playable.

A big thanks to Danthrax4 (@Danbo_4) for the pixel-art that I was able to take to create this new English-language VMU icon!

Re: New English translation project (Nakoruru: The Gift She Gave Me)
Just a little update on the new "Bonus Disc" that I decided will be shipped with the English translation patch upon release!
EDIT: Somehow I said "Summer 2002" in this video, when I meant to say "2022". I guess my mind really is stuck somewhere around 9-9-99
