What is Abattoir of Zir in Diablo 4?

The Abattoir of Zir stands as the newest event extending the Season of Blood content, introducing the game's most challenging content for players to tackle. Only the strongest builds and the most skilled players will be able to complete this end-game activity on the highest Tiers.

Below, we'll explore the release and end date for this event.

Abattoir of Zir Event Duration

This seasonal event is scheduled to kick off on December 5th and will be open until January 23rd. It's important to mention that the Abattoir of Zir is tied to the Season of Blood theme. Once the season concludes, this activity will also disappear. However, there's a possibility of seeing it again in the future, either in a similar fashion or with different mechanics.

Abattoir of Zir Mechanic

From what we know, the Abattoir of Zir will resemble the Greater Rifts found in Diablo 3, and it will be the most difficult content available for Season of Blood. The players will have 10 minutes to kill enough enemies to fill a progress bar that will spawn a boss. Defeating the boss before the time runs out will complete the event.

Abattoir of Zir Difficulty

A total of 25 Tiers of Bloodforged Sigils will be accessible in the game. It's crucial to note that this is considered the most challenging content, surpassing with ease the T100 Nightmare Dungeons. The difficulty scales significantly with each tier, presenting a formidable challenge for players.

How to unlock Abattoir of Zir Dungeon

Another crucial aspect of unlocking the Abattoir of Zir in Diablo IV Season of Blood, other than having a very powerful build, is to complete the seven chapters from the Season Journey. This is very disappointing for some players, as this activity is oriented toward a limited number of players that have already achieved lvl 100, an end-game min-max build, and completed all of the chapters.

Complete Diablo 4 Season Journey for Season of Blood

First of all, you have plenty of time to start grinding for the Season Journey completion and your desired items. This activity will unlock only after completing all of the seven chapters available in the Season of Blood. Down below, we'll have some examples of what you can expect in different chapters. Don't forget you can access these objectives by pressing the "U" key in the game.

  • Chapter 1: Complete 6 out of 8 objectives required. Here, you will have very basic stuff like upgrading your items, completing a World Boss, and some dungeons.
  • Chapter 2: Complete 10 out of 12 objectives required. Completing a number of cellars, conquering a Stronghold, and reaching level 25 are essential to move forward.
  • Chapter 3: Complete 10 out of 13 objectives required. In this chapter, you'll experiment with the newest mechanic, Blood Harvest, unlocking World Tier III and obtaining a number of caches from the Tree of Whispers.
  • Chapter 4 - Complete 9 out of 11 objectives required. To progress further, you'll start tackling Nightmare Dungeons, improving your Glyphs, and upgrading your Vampiric Powers.
  • Slayer: Complete 10 out of 12 objectives required. In this chapter, you'll unlock World Tier IV, improving your Glyph to the maximum level and farming in the Helltide zones.
  • Champion: Complete 10 out of 12 objectives required. Reaching level 90, defeating some of the newest bosses in Season of Blood on World Tier IV difficulty, and completing Tier 50 Nightmare Dungeons are a must to progress to the final chapter.
  • Destroyer: Complete 7 out of 9 objectives required. For the last chapter, expect to defeat Echo of Lilith and Duriel, demolish tier 90 Nightmare Dungeons, and upgrade five Glyphs to Rank 21.

After completing these challenging objectives, players will get the recipe to craft Bloodforged Sigils, revealing a bloody portal in Ked Bardu. For those who have already finished the Season journey, it's advisable to focus on min-maxing your gear before adventuring in the Abattoir of Zir.

Abattoir of Zir Rewards

With this new event, Blizzard has also introduced a new Glyph exclusive to this activity, and it might be the most powerful Glyph seen. Down below, will explore this Glyph and what else you can achieve in this dungeon, starting with:

Tears of Blood Glyph

The Tears of Blood is by far the most searched and used Glyph in the Season of Blood. With a good vision of this item, it benefits all the classes available, offering the next bonus: For every five Core Stats purchased within range, you gain 2.0% [x] increased damage. It's worth noting that this Unique Glyph has the maximum level capped at 200.

Gear and Material Rewards

Since the Abattoir of Zir event resembles the Greater Rifts, the boss drops crafting materials, gold, rare and legendary gear, and more. Let's explore what are the GRs for a player who hasn't touched Diablo III.

Abattoir of Zir vs Diablo 3 Greater Rifts

The Abattoir of Zir closely resembles the Greater Rifts found in Diablo 3. While players familiar with Diablo 3 will understand this activity, for those who haven't played the game, it might sound unfamiliar. To bridge this gap, the following section will provide an in-depth overview of the Greater Rifts, highlighting the similarities and differences between these two activities.

What is a Greater Rift?

The Greater Rifts in Diablo 3 are the main end-game content and the most challenging one. The players get access to this activity once they acquire a Greater Rift Keystone. The main objective of these rifts is to kill many enemies as fast as possible, to fill your progress bar before the time runs out, and successfully kill the boss. Doing so, you'll be granted the ability to upgrade your Legendary Gems.

Similarities between Greater Rifts and Abattoir of Zir.

The Abattoir of Zir and Greater Rifts are indeed identical. Both activities feature a progress bar and a given time to complete them. After a successful clear, you can upgrade your Glyph in Diablo IV and your Legendary Gems in Diablo 3 and obtain basic rewards such as crafting materials, Gold, Rare and Legendary Gear, and powerful items.

Differences between Abattoir of Zir and Greater Rifts.

The only noticeable difference is the time limit. In Diablo 3, you had 15 minutes to clear a Greater Rift, but things have changed in Diablo 4. Instead of 15 minutes, the players will have only 10 minutes available to complete this activity.

Another difference might be that the Greater Rifts are an end-game permanent activity in Diablo 3, while Diablo IV brings them only for the thematic Season of Blood, an event that will run for a month and a half. Adding new content in the end-game besides the regular dungeons is what D4 needs right now. We hope for more events and new permanent end-game activities like this in the near future.

Endnote

In this comprehensive overview, we've discussed everything you need to know about this new end-game activity: Abattoir of Zir, what it is, how to unlock, the rewards, and many more. Now, it's your time to prepare and grind for the Season journey or for the best-in-slot items to be ready to tackle the most challenging end-game content. We wish you luck, wanderers, and see you soon.
