Pokemon Go fans can’t get enough of Gligar, the Ground/Flying-type Pokemon that is dominating the Great Battle League. So, if you want to add one to your team, learn the best moveset for it now.

Whether in Pokemon Go or mainline Pokemon games like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Ground and Flying-type is a uniquely powerful combination, giving its multiple advantages.

So, it’s little surprise that while the mighty Landorus consistently pops up in the upper levels of competitive Pokemon, the humble Gligar also populates some of the lower ranks.

Players may also wonder why Gligar is so important right now, and not its evolution Gliscor, and that is down to a very important change in both Pokemon’s pool of moves.

Gligar is dual Ground/Flying-type and has a stat spread of 108 (ATK), 146.2 (DEF), and 130 (STA). It can also reach a maximum CP of 2099, and while it is weak to Water, and especially weak to Ice, it resists Ground, Bug, Electric, Fighting, and Poison-type moves.

If you’re aiming to make your way up the ranks in Pokemon Go’s Great Battle League, be sure to grab yourself a Gligar, and then learn exactly how to use it with our full guide.

Best moveset for Gligar

The best moveset for Gligar in Pokemon Go is Wing Attack as a Fast Move and Dig as a Charged Move, as they make the most effective use of the STAB bonus with Gligar’s Ground/Flying-type combination.

Plus, while Gliscor may have Earthquake, recent changes to the game suggest that Dig has instead had a buff, while Earthquake has been nerfed. Because of this, many players are using Gligar instead of Gliscor competitively, as explained in this Reddit post.

All moves Gligar can learn

Gligar has a slim but effective move pool that makes solid use of its particular type combination. In Pokemon Go Gligar can learn the following moves:

Gligar Fast moves

  • Fury Cutter (Bug)
  • Wing Attack (Flying/STAB)

Gligar Charged moves

  • Aerial Ace (Flying/STAB)
  • Dig (Ground/STAB)
  • Night Slash (Dark)

Should players use Shadow Gligar in Pokemon Go?

A shadow version of Gligar is shown

Gligar is a Defense-focused Pokemon, with bulky stats across both its Defense and HP. This means that it can afford to take the Defense nerf that comes with Shadow Pokemon, to instead gain an extra boost to Attack.

However, Shadow Pokemon have the Charged Attack Frustration, which isn’t much use for Gligar. If you can hold out until a Team Rocket event like the upcoming Pokemon Go Taken Treasures event, you may be able to use a Charged TM to teach it Dig.

Ultimately, it might be better to use a normal Gligar, but if you can afford the Stardust to teach it another Charged Attack, or there’s a Team Rocket event active, this is a Pokemon that can battle well in either form.

Is Gligar any good in Pokemon Go?

Gligar is one of the most popular Pokemon in the Pokemon Go Great Battle League thanks to a fantastic type combination that offers it a lot of resistance to popular types, as well as bulky defense stats and access to the powerful move Dig.

It might get outclassed in any tier above Great Battle League, but if you’re building a team you should both consider including Gligar and prepare to face one. Or, several.
