The Eagles Don Felder, 72, engaged to Inside Edition's Diane McInerney, 48

Don Felder is celebrating his engagement to Inside Edition weekend anchor Diane McInerney.

The former Eagles guitarist, 72, proposed to the 48-year-old on the beach during a sunset stroll in Malibu last month after two years of dating, reports People magazine.

It was the spot where he wrote the music for the iconic 1976 Eagles album, Hotel California.

A source told People: 'Don is so in love with Diane. She fills his heart every day in every way with love and joy. Diane is beyond excited to be engaged to the love of her life. Their friends and family are thrilled for their happiness.'

In a picture from her Instagram stories on Monday, Diane showed off her ring - a custom design featuring a five-carat round brilliant cut diamond.

Following the proposal the musician whisked Diane away for a luxury trip to Mexico.

The marriage is a second one for both. Felder has four children with ex-wife Susan Pickersgill, from whom he split in 2000 after three decades of marriage.

Speaking of their split earlier this year, he told The Big Issue: 'I think my wife and I would still be together today if the band hadn't been on the road between 10 and 11 months a year. When you're away all the time, and every room is an empty hotel room, and there's a lot of partying going on it's easy to forget what's going on at home.

'All sorts of things can happen on the road. I don't use that as an excuse – I accept I did that, and I suffered the consequences. I deserve everything that happened to me.

'And sadly, my children grew up with mostly an absentee father. When the band broke up I tried to make up for that. I made a solo record but I didn't tour. I stayed at home, I became the school soccer coach. I felt I owed them that time.'

Diane was previously married to criminal defense lawyer, Edward Palermo, with whom she has two daughters.

The New York-born journalist has been at Inside Edition since 2003.
