Denzel Washington wears all-black to support the LA Lakers against the Denver Nugget alongside Francesca Eastwood

He may have been wearing a New York Yankees cap, but Denzel Washington is a firm Los Angeles Lakers fan and on Tuesday he was sat courtside to watch his basketball team play.

Sadly, the He Got Game star or his pal Leon's presence wasn't enough to secure a victory for the homeside at the Staples Center, as they lost  67-39 to the Denver Nuggets.

But Denzel, 60, looking slick in all-black, wasn't the only actor present as Francesca Eastwood was there too, having a giggly old time with her actress pal Elizabeth Whitson.

For Washington though, he may be making his first steps back towards television in 30 years after Lee Daniels revealed that he was trying to persuade the veteran star to appear in his hit TV show Empire.

Last month the director and producer posted a selfie of himself with the Academy award winning actor as they discussed the potential part he could play in the FOX series.

He also seemed to confirm to the Philadelphia Inquirer that Washington was definitely being lined up.

'Denzel hasn't done television in 30 years, but he saw the pilot and said, "I've got to be a part of this",' Daniels said.

Terrance Howard takes the lead as the drug-dealing rapper-turned-music mogul, heading up a hip-hop record label while suffering with the first stages of ALS.

The show centres on his relationship with his three sons and ex-wife as they fight for success and the keys to the kingdom once he succombs to the disease.

Daniels has yet to confirm what role Washington will play on Empire, but Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Raven-Symoné, Macy Gray, Courtney Love and Foxy Brown are all set to make appearances.

Denzel's last cinematic outing was in The Equalizer, opposite Chloe Moretz, as a mysterious yet deadly man who brings his lethal skills out of retirement to exact vengeance on a ruthless Russian gang.
